House Passes Violence Against Women Act Without LGBT Protections

The House of Representatives approved reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, but did not approve of the portion that would have explicitly included LGBT victims of violence.

The bill passed 222-205 on Wednesday.

Obama has declared he will veto this bill without the protections for LGBT people. Given the extent of Obama's failure as a leader I bet he doesn't veto thisbill.

We all know that Congress time is very valuable and they should maximize the value of their time. Wouldn't it be more productive for Congress to enact a "Violence against the Black Male" law or even better the "Violence against the Black Male by the Black Male " law? I've heard more than one influential Black leader say that Black Males are an "endangered species". Something needs to be done and soon if you ax me.

Senate will not pass House bill so the point is moot.

I think Obama is evolving on the issue and any prediction would be, at best, a guess.

Why should a violence against Women Act include anything other than L in the LGBT thing?

Because that's just a name to hang your hat on. Lesbians = woman, Gay could refer to gay women, bisexual could refer to bisexual women, Transgender = could be a woman.

Why wouldn't a democrat Senate pass a Democrat Bill, endorsed by Obama?

Why don't they pass a budget? Oh, Reid says we don't need one.

Last time I checked, what makes a 'woman' a 'woman' is the reproductive organs she possesses.

What does it matter if she has a mullet, wears Tevas and a gutchpack, likes Melissa Etheridge and despises men? still female.....

Men who dress like women, and vice versa....sorry, but nature and your parents' reproductive organs made you the sex you are. No law on the books or public policy can change the facts. Surgery is your only hope. so deal with it.

The fact that her baby making parts ARE NOT a penis is all that is required to designate her as a female or in this case 'Woman'. Same for the transgendered. If you can stand up and accurately urinate, have a pertruding organ shaped like a meat missle, testacles with sperm-- you are a male.

I don't make the rules of nature, neither do you.

lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered are not races, nor sexes. it is a sexual preference, and should not determine special treatment by the law. The famous statue of 'Lady Justice' has balanced scales, law books and a blindfold. I do not see her represented looking in one's bedroom to determine the law anywhere.....

What ? Realy ? Oh My GOD...

You mean to say that women, those human beings born with a vagina, uterus, overies, etc aren't the same thing as those with otherwise healthy organs of one sex who somehow want to be of the other sex ?

    The thought boggles the mind.
