Too early to start the hype?
Too early to start the hype?
I can't beging to think about this until tonight's CHC v Loyola Lax championship is over. I'm friends with a few out of towners who want to see what Lax is all about....I can't think of a better way to show them than this. Pretty sure they'll be shocked to see a crowd the size this one will draw.
Yes it is early, but I would have loved a Dunbar vs Gilman game. Wade signs off on this one because Dunbar has a greater chance to win since CHC is depleated in senior talent. He would have never signed off on this one with Stuart under center.
As will the Cardinals. Apparently, the smack talk started a couple of months ago. Some Poets think it will be a cake walk, with Calvert Hall losing 30 seniors from their roster. I say, not so fast. I grew up playing with Travis at Overlea rec. and I have talked to him a few times over the past few years. He will be put to the test, as he will be facing one of the, if not the best best defensive staff around. I know there is no love lost between some of the coaches on both sides. Many of the young men on both sides know each other very well. They are gonna be ready. It's gonna be exciting.
Thomas, CJ, Da'Quan, Emmanuel, Brandon, Trevor the other 20 something seniors will be missed on and off the field. However, the cupboard is not bare. This is the annual dilemma in HS and college sports. It so happens, CHC will be taking an enormous hit in losing almost 30 seniors, 20 of whom played in one capacity or another. Whether it be as starters or key reserves or on special teams. I know the CHC staff is looking forward to the challenge. Personally, I think CHC is going to be better than most people think.
Watson, I know you have a personal connection to Stuart and I am going to miss him as much as anyone. I have been one of his biggest supporters on this board since well before he played his first game as a Cardinal. Other CHC people and outsiders were not as confident and were saying he wasn't as good as his predecessor or his incumbent competition (before he transferred to City).
I think Thomas' understudy will do a great job in leading the Cardinals offense next season. Hopefully, we can stay away from the comparisons and let Colar be Colar. Personally, I think Colar is going to be a gem. He is not Tommy, but everyone has confidence in Colar, including Thomas. I think Colar has a GREAT chance to be a D1 QB in a few years . He has all the tools. He has a big arm, he is strong, smart, very high football IQ and deceptively mobile. He can make every throw on the field as good as any returning HS QB in this area. His OL has the potential to be considerably better than Thomas'.
Are there going to be growing pains? Of course. We are talking about mostly 15-18 year old young men. many of whom will be starting on the varsity level for the 1st time. CHC could also very well have 2,3, or even possibly 4 freshmen make the varsity squad this season, and one might start at DE from day 1. I think they will compete with Gilman and possiblt challenge for the MIAA Championship. However, we will not know for sure for a few months.
I think Dunbar should be favored but if you forced me to bet, I would right now(not knowing who he transfers might be) pick CHC. I agree with your assertion about their defensive coordinator being very good(wouldn't ca him the best).
You are very high on the Cards being able to challenge Gilman this year. With what? Gilman has PROVEN players. 6 returning players on D(all of which are D1 prospects) with a very high profile transfer that has D1 offers. You have an unproven QB, that could very well turn out to be a stud but who knows. You have a stud in Delando. But your definitely lacking in speed. Levere is a good WR but not very fast(he ran track this war and his times weren't very fast). I think Gilman runs away with the MIAA this year.
To me CHC will be fighting with McDonogh for 2nd place. Both have unproven QB's with a lot of hype and potential. McDonogh has speed returning for days, they are faster than CHC by a LOT! The kids Myers and Hawkins ran some very very fast times for 9th graders. They have serious speed. And with the Gilman transfer(if he can remain healthy), they have more playmakers than CHC. CHC will probably have a better D but I think McDonogh will give them all they can handle. Just as they did last year.
Transfers from DC and the county?
Stay tuned....
The defensive staff is one of the best on the state (top 3). CHC might not have track stars everyone knows about, but they are not a slow on the football field by any stretch. Track speed and playing at a high level with pads are not the same. Having said that, CHC does indeed have young burners, including a transfer from the city. The offense will be fine. Kuhns is a legit D1 QB with much more than Johnson and Leveree at his disposal.
I think a local station (WNUV) has the tv rights. Booker (aka the man) at Kudda.com has been broadcasting MIAA lacrosse games all season. However, he stated they owns the rights and will not allow him to do his thing. They are not even broadcasting live. It will be shown tomorrow night @ 8 pm.
I am also very excited about tonight's game. It's us against the MIAA world tonight. LOL
Any word on any incoming Dunbar transfers?

The last time the 2 met over 16 years ago.
High school football is always the same. Every one loses a ton of seniors. with that said every year, back ups step up and becomes the next group of stars.CHC loses the most on defence. with only 2-3 returning starters. Epple,Delondol, and Cole, will have to step up. Biggest weak spot will be the Defensive line. If some young bloods do not appear it could be a very long year. One Question is what do they do with Delondo.Since all the (great recruiters)LOL place him at a safety next level. Do they do what is best for him or put him at DE wich will be best for the team? The offense will be fine. Kohler has a lot of skilled players around him like Bones, Levere, Delondo, and lets not forget Kehne who I personally thought was the best runner they had last year. He hits the whole full speed he is low to the ground and he will run you over if you try to arm tackle him. This year they have to throw the ball to run it. If they try to Pound the rock and throw the ball it wil be a long year.Kohler is a good QB let him sling it around a little, quick passes build confidence.Keep the defense on their toes. If they wait for 3rd downs to throw it will be a up hill battle. Lets not forget Dunbar loses a ton of talent The big 3 Mc Manus, Highsmith, Hawkins, these 3 will not be easy to replace. Go Hall
Good analysis...Colar also has Erik Evans (3 sport varsity player in football, basketball and lacrosse this school year as a sophomore), Juantez Mcrae, Logan Kurek and the young man who wore #11 on JV last season to throw the ball to. I think they are going to move Delando around, but I think he will play safety. They are in good shape at CB as well, with Kennedy (very fast, also QB on championship JV team 2 yrs ago, but he was hurt all last season) and Bones or one of the handful of talented underclassmen CB's moving up. I am not sure which young bloods you are referencing. Kids moving up from JV or freshmen? The way it is looking right now, they might be playing a freshman at DE and a sophomore at one of the DT spots. I think the DL should be OK, but we will not know for sure untilAugust and beyond.
It's all supposition! Right now CHC is in a position that they have not been since 2009.Yet to be proven.
Makes one realize just how good the 2010 MIAA championship team was!
I would be most happy to see them win 7 or 8 games. But that may be a stretch!
Johnson will be as good as the folks around him. He won't be able to carry the team by himself.
At this point I don't see them beating Dunbar, Gilman, Spalding or McD.
