Default Obama to honor GW Bush at the White House

This should be an awkward ceremony:

President Obama will honor President George W. Bush at the White House on May 31, in a ceremony unveiling the official portraits of Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Freddy Ford, Bush’s spokesman, released a statement:

“The Bushes are looking forward to being back in Washington and seeing some of their friends. They appreciate the Obamas’ hospitality in hosting the portrait hanging.”

Bush gave an impromptu endorsement of presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney earlier this week.

Why? From time to time the 'inside the beltway' crowd drops the facade of day to day politics. If you look carefully you might even catch the 'wink, wink' when they meet.

I agree that people can get beyond political differences and socialize with the otherside. Obama has met several times with Bush I and Jeb Bush and they seem to get along.

I'm not sure if Bush II is as cordial with Obama given how often Obama talks about not returning to the bad policies of his predecessor. Of course its nothing personal. Its just politics.

Obama is probably more political than Bush though. It's one of his failings and hard to defend. As for Bush, no doubt he'll show up anywhere people are willing to stand next to him.

In 2004 Bush gave a very warm speech when Clinton's portrait was done. Obama will do the same.

More than likely, it will be a snarky, semi-nasty poke a Bush. After all, BO has spent his entire time "in office" blaming Bush for his failures.

yep, once they become incumbents, they all stand for the same thing ......

first and foremost, it's using tax dollars and the tax code to stay in power ......

the 2 parties just have different targets for their largesse ......
