Iran has enough uranium for five nuclear weapons, claims US thinktank

Iran has significantly increased its output of low-enriched uranium and if it was further refined could make at at least five nuclear weapons, according to a US thinktank.

The Institute for Science and International Security, which tracks Iran's nuclear programme, made the analysis on the basis of data in the latest quarterly report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The UN watchdog's report, published on Friday, showed Iran pressing ahead with its uranium enrichment work in defiance of UN resolutions calling on it to suspend the activity.
This is the kind of sensationalism that undermines credibility. After that thing about Iraq having cubic tonnes and tens of thousands of litres of bio/chem weapons. America cannot afford to take such liberties with the facts. The truth of the matter is that Iran does not have enough weapons grade uranium to build a single bomb. We have no proof that Iran has any weapons grade Uranium at all. I understand that this is a projection on the potential. But it was taking potential as gospell that lead to that huge embarassment in Iraq. It would interesting to see this same criteria applied to US Corporations that own and operate nuclear reactors. How many nuclear bombs could they make from the Uranium that goes into the reactor and how many nuclear bombs could be made from the Plutonium that comes out of the reactor? Can we pass our own test?

If they open up all of their nuclear facilities to full unobstructed inspections, we would then have the proof that they don't have any weapons grade material at all. Many people have asked the question as to what would have happened if Hitler had been confronted years before WWII. Could it have been prevented? I believe this situation falls into that category. President Obama does not want it going on his legacy as being the president who allowed Iran to become a nuclear power. If you think, like I do, that he will likely win a second term, then you have to believe during that second term he will work towards making sure his legacy is not one that can be second guessed by Iran developing a nuclear weapon. The truth about Iran's nuclear ambitions is at this point an unknown. They hold the key to making that unknown a known. The longer they stall and hold out on full unobstructed access to every one of their sites, the easier it is for someone to jump to a conclusion that may not be true. It is in their best interest to simply open everything up to total access for the world to see. Unless they really are hiding something.

Default Iran not ready for visit to suspect nuclear site

The U.N. nuclear watchdog has not yet given good enough reasons to visit an Iranian site where it suspects there may have been experiments for developing nuclear weapons, Iranian media said.

The Parchin complex is at the centre of Western suspicions that Iran is developing atom bombs despite Tehran's repeated denials of any such ambition. A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week said satellite images showed "extensive activities" at Parchin.

Iranian officials have refused access to the complex, southeast of Tehran, saying it is a military site.

And here comes the obstructing. It's as predictable as the sun rising.

Once again, the Obama administration is duped by a belligerent, obfuscating regime. North Korea and now Iran. This is a joke.

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. I don't believe the US is worried about Iran starting a nuclear war ,they are worried about Iran giving small nuclear devices to terrorists.

Except that right now it's the US Congress that are openly embracing known terrorists and we have the really big nukes that fit nicely in a small package. Is anyone worried about that?

So are you saying the US would give nukes in a suitcase to another country to use? Sorry not buying that one. Not saying we haven't done some shady stuff before but that's one I have a hard time swallowing.

No, what I'm saying is that you can't condemn other nations for dealing with Terrorists while you're embracing Terrorists. What ever fears or concerns we justify about Iran's dealings with Terrorist we also justify about our dealings with Terrorists.

I thought so! Israel is just trying to keep Iranian technology from surpassing Israeli technology. Israel doesn't have the technology to build nuclear subs so they buy them from Germany. Iran does have the technology to build nuclear subs. That would be a another legal use of 20% Uranium. This whole conflict is nothing more than a ruse for more Israeli industrial espionage and sabotage.

    Iran 'designing nuclear submarine'

"Initial steps to design and build nuclear submarine propulsion systems have begun," Admiral Abbas Zamini, the technical deputy navy chief, told the agency.

"All countries have the right to use peaceful nuclear technology, including for the propulsion system of its vessels," he said.

Iran's navy "needs the (nuclear-powered) propulsion system to succeed in realising very long-distance operations."
