    Default Goodbye Jake

I don't care if Arrieta is injured, ineffective, or both - it's time for him to stop starting games for the Orioles. He's not even a 5th starter right now - he's not a major leaguer in general. You can talk all you want about how good he is when he's on. You can tell me he has the best raw stuff of anyone on the staff. I don't give a damn. Right now he absolutely sucks, he has been costing the Orioles games for over a month, and he needs to not be on the 25 man roster. Send him down, send him out, or do whatever it takes to get him off the team, because every time he steps on the mound, it's basically a guaranteed loss.

THIS is exactly the reason why the Orioles need to take a pitcher on Monday. Some, if not most, of the young staff is going to fizzle. We've already seen it with Hunter, we're seeing it now with Arrieta, Matusz could regress at any moment, and we have no idea what we're getting with Britton. If they get one good starter out of those 3 they'll be lucky, and you can't stop stocking pitching depth, especially when you have college power arms with great command that can contribute within a year or two of being drafted. They now have at least 2 spots in the rotation that need replacing, and more could present themselves as the season wears on.

    Here comes the doom patrol.

Arrieta's WHIP this year is his best. He's been hit by hard luck.

a 5.53 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP is not due to back luck...it's due to bad pitching.....keep reaching troll....

Buck has said as of now he will make his next start so I'll expect another thread complaining about that within the hour.

Arrieta has allowed 4 or more runs in 8 out of his last 10 starts.

I'm not in the doom patrol but its obvious Arrieta is struggling. I want the team win running Jake out there every 5th day hurts the team. Maybe some time AAA or move to pen might help him and the team?

And let's not forget Bedard was a the best pitcher we had in the last 5 years.

Good enough for the Mariner's to sell the farm to get him

Good enough that the Sox wanted him for their postseason run.

Good enough that he's having a good year as we speak.

Some of Arrieta's peripheral numbers look decent but that is because he has had 3 dominant outings (MIN, NYY, WAS) that account for roughly one third of his total innings pitched (22/70). Those peripherals are only gonna get worse if he continues to pitch like this although the crazy thing is he only gave up 2 hits today!

Which is pretty damming evidence he is simply not a winner. Most competent Ps that allow 2 H in 5 IP generally have their team in good position to win games.

Ah....but not Jake the Fake. Some 'ace.'

Right, Arrieta was walking batters that were barely hitting .200.

I know one thing for sure, pitching for a team, that scores 2 or fewer runs a game, can put a lot of stress on a pitcher to be perfect. no one can pitch like that. that comment isn't specific to Jake's performance yesterday.

Palmer and Dempsey (separately) were discussing how his mechanics visibly changed between the 3rd to 4th innings. that could be a good thing. if it's mechanical, he can work on that and improve his consistency within each game and between starts.

the alternative is that his pitches don't break no matter how good his delivery is. that would mean he's probably as good as he'll ever get.

so this may just be a temporary problem that can be worked on and improve his consistency

Johnson. The one on the minors, not Jim.
