Default "Tommy Hunter is not good"

Man, Schoenfield just lays it right out there. No holding back in discussing trade options for Ryan Dempster:

Tommy Hunter is not good. Jake Arrieta and Brian Matusz are shaky. Dempster could provide a huge lift, even if the O's would be worried about the concern of him moving from the NL Central to the AL East.

Trade suggestion: Sorry, Cubs fans, you're not getting Dylan Bundy or Manny Machado. Don't even think about it. Maybe the Orioles will be tempted to part with infielder Jonathan Schoop, hitting .241/.300/.310 at Double-A, but he's just 20 years old. The Orioles have other non-40-man talent and maybe Dan Duquette would be willing to part from his bullpen depth. (Wait, did we just use bullpen depth and Orioles in the same sentence?)

No worries, Larry. Word has it from the Wharehouse that DD will soon be signing Frank Tanana to a minor league deal with the obvious goal in mind that by Aug. 1, Buck wants nothing but lefthanders in the starting-ro. Ummmmmm ..... Moyer, Willis, Tanana, Chen, and Matusz. I like it.

This team needs another solid pitcher real bad. A legit #1 or 2 would be great at stabilizing this rotation. Hammel and Chen have been solid but it goes downhill fast from there. This team has no chance at the playoffs with our current staff, our young pitchers just have not turned out to be that great.

I think he was rather generous in calling Jake the Fake and BatAroundUsz 'shaky.'

for years we've been told the reason the O's aren't players in the big ticket FA game is because the team isn't ready for that. well...it looks like they could be ready.

can't wait to see what happens in July/Aug.

I would be very happy with Dempster.
He would give this team depth at the top of the rotation. He would also be gone at the end of the season, giving the O's little to worry about.
I would make the Cubs take Gregg as part of the deal.

Only signed through this year. 35 years old. Can this team afford to give a good prospect for a 1 year rental? This is why the team should have gone 4 years for Ed Jackson. So they wouldnt be stuck in this situation of having hardly any SP and needing to give up a peice of the future like Schoop for a one year rental. I hope the Orioles dont give up a B prospect for him.

I think we need to make a hard run at this point.

The O's pitching is good enough as is for their march to 95 wins. If Arrieta and Britton perform even close to their 2011 level for the rest of 2012, the O's overall pitching will be equal to or better than anyone else in the AL East except Tampa and Tampa has no chance because of their non-existent offense. As for Hunter, he's fine as a back of the rotation starter and shouldn't be written off so quickly.

With all due respect your opinion is about as if not more worthless than Moonbeams.

This coming from the person who couldn't think of one guy on our rotation that could be replaced by Roy Oswalt????

If my rough calucalations are correct our starting rotation has 350 innings and 182 ER this year for a 4.68 ERA..... that may have been ok during the steriod era but down right sucks in todays game.

When you take Hammel and Chen out of those stats the rest of the rotation ERA is 5.55!!!!!

Think all you want.....but one won't be made. There is no way Peter G is going to sign off on any potentially expensive deal...be it expensive now or down the road.

Your most likely 'upgrades' will come in the form of the likes of Grandpa Jaime (assuming he even sticks around) and Miggy T. But it will likely be a mute point soon enuf....this cute little 'contention' run is surely about to wrap up.

It's not going to happen with Arrieta and Britton.
The types of problems they have take time to work out, and the O's probably would have to wait until the middle or end of next month to get them back where they were contributing like that.

The O's already have Moyer, who could probably be that option, and if Piniero comes back, he could fill that role, too....but they still seem to need one more 1-3 slot guy to fill out this rotation.
Fortunately, it looks like they have the offense to make the long haul run right now, with 4 guys on pace to hit 20+ homers, including AJ's 48 homer pace, and guys like Nick waiting to come back and contribute (who had a 20+ homer pace before he went on the DL.)
