Default MD List not National List

Also we wouldn't know if other kids have offers because even if they did, other schools aren't out here publicizing them.

The people in the know and who rank these players didn't have any of the CHC players in the top 5 in the DMV for the Class of 2016. Gilman's Ellison Jordan had a recruitment that was like a college recruitment. He was basically the consensus top player in the state(most people said he was the best player in the state last year as a 7th grader) and one of the top players in the whole country. Shane Simmons that's going to DeMatha is generally considered the 2nd best recruit. A lot of people are comparing him to Big Cyrus from DeMatha who was the #2 recruit in the country and now at Alabama. The RB Antonio Dupree going to Gilman and Tino Ellis going to DM, are then considered the next best recruits. Smith now might be considered right here at 5. The kid Scroggins wasn't on anyone's Top 10-15. Their are other kids like Dorian Maddox(Gilman) who is easily the best athlete in the class by far, Steven Smothers(Franklin), Daqwan Hill(Good Counsel), Eric Burrell(McDonogh), Pleavon Pryor(MSJ) and others that are considered better prospects at this point.

The CHC kids are out making the rounds with NLN. But rating these kids on the field is another story. The Class of 2016 is star studded. It looks like it can rival this years Class as one of the best ever in the DMV. But on anyone's scorecard, the two ELITE classes in the Area are DM's and Gilman's. I wouldn't even put CHC's class as the third or fourth best. GC's late push has their Class better and Friendship's Class is better. MSJ's Class is not far behind CHC's to be honest.
Never said I didn't believe such lists existed. In my previous post I asked for a ranking of MD's top 7th and 8th graders. As you can see in your post, you bragged about who's class was better in MD. The Max Preps list is worthless in determining this. I hope you can understand why I just can't accept your "objectivity".

I mean of course we all have our certain bias but I try to call it like I see it. As you can see though, the Smith kid has made a name for himself this summer without pads on. He's obviously very impressive. Hell he just got a Maryland offer and no other player who has played Varsity at CHC has one. Not even Delando Johnson. So the coaches see something in this kid. I for one can't wait to see him play!

Like I said, with all these studs trying D1 offers, CHC should run away with the championship, lol!!

I agree. They now have more D1 players on the team than at any time the last 2 years. Or even combined,That should put a lot of pressure on the coaches. The experts have already determine they have the Athletes.

15 out of 22 new starters and the pressure is on the coaches? LOL. That's pretty funny. The 2012 Cardinals are going to be the youngest, least experienced CHC team in Davis' tenure. There are not many people, if any besides the two who have already stepped up who truly believe the pressure is on the coaches this year after losing 31 seniors & 15 starters. PLEASE forgive me for complimenting a young man who is going to be a sophomore for working hard and getting recognition in a thread about "The Next Wave of Talent". Anyone who turns a compliment of young man right back at the coaching staff is harboring bad feelings/sour grapes or in Greyhound's case, he just pushes forward like the very skilled, seasoned politician of his craft on this board that he is. Shaping every thread to fit into his talking points and agenda. Shame on anyone who underestimates Greyhound. The man is sharp... very sharp.

Agreed. This seems an approprate place to congratulate a young man. Shame on those who want to turn that into some perceived pressure on the coaching staff.

Great spin. Fact is I don't care how inexperienced you are, "the experts" are saying that CHC has like 15 D1 players. That's more than Gilman and probably more than every other school in the league combined. So if they "experts" say this then we should feel like they are that talented. This CHC should be the favorites then to run the table(especially with that weak schedule) and win it all. Although young, they have athletes all over the field.

When Cyrus Jones came into his sophomore year he didn't have any offers but he was all state. I said before the season that year that he would be one of the best in the state. Sounds like CHC has about 5 Cyrus Jones's on that team. Hell you have been telling us all about these super talented JV players and what studs they are for the last 2 years, stand by your statements! Because to me, if you have 5 Cyrus's on your team, although young, you should easily be the best team in the area!

I don't think the amount of d1 verbals a team has really means much in terms of how good a team is.. sure it helps to have those athletes but there is only one ball... University had 19 D1 offered kids on their roster last year and they lost in the quarter finals of the FLA 3A division.. They had a great offense but was weak on D.. many of those early verbal offers were for second string receivers and backs who had no impact on the games last year... Ursuline in OH always has a stable of d1 running backs but because only one can run the ball at a time so they put the others at LB so they can play.. These kids probably never played LB and were starting running backs and D Backs on their middle or rec team... University even with all that talent one guy was 80% of their offense.. MacGarret Kings scored 30 of their 42 points when we played them.. He line up everywhere, Rb, slot, qb, wr... They just got him the ball in space with in 2 seconds of the snap and he did all the damage in RAC yards.. they took line play out of the equation and always seemed to be one step ahead of our DC. A good basketball on grass team is difficult to stop. Really the only way to stop it is you have to hope the QB has a bad day with his reads and makes some mistakes..

The point is football is still a team game and you don't really need a ton of offered kids to win.. Look at Bellevue they blast teams with way more individual talent than them with their system.... Now having d1 offered kids does certainly help in attracting more kids to the program so yes if the coaching is there then you can certainly make use of that talent.. but you still need a balance of talent and hard nosed "football" players and coaching..

I agree with you. But in my mind, if you have LEGIT D1 talent on your team in droves you should be a powerhouse. My point to Card was, he has touted these kids as stars for two years now and the colleges are agreeing with him. So they see something. With that much so called talent on your team, CHc should be a monster this year. I made my statement about Jones before his sophomore year and he showed what I was saying was in fact true and he didn't have an offer coming into the season. So I'm expecting huge things out of the CHC team this year!

Not sure but dont think CHC Card touted these guys as stars 2 years ago because some of them wasnt even in the program yet. Rahshaun Smith, M. Scroggins, Dionte Austin, & J. McCrae are all all rising Freshman or Sophomores who are getting a lot of recruiting attention, but I dont think they were at CHC 2 years ago(correct me if im wrong). Its probably more like the guys in Kuhns, and Neverdon.

This may also be a bold statement but I can honestly say that the recruiting circuit is consistently changing, evolving & working for the better. I think times have changed even from when Cyrus was a Sophomore. I believe that it is a direct result of exposure (7v7s, camps, combines, media attention, etc) and the fact that athletes from MD are proving their worth nationally. The guys from MD that go to these big time programs are making names for themselves and recruiters are taking notice. (Diggs, Jennings, Haden, Austin, Campanaro, Amos just to name a few recent guys) Not to discredit their efforts because those young men are working hard, traveling, and simply getting their names out there. Now they are reaping from the benefits early! Scouts are simply trying to get the leg up on others because of the potential they possess. Austin is already 5"10 with a great wing span already running a 4.5, or the Smith kid who is 6"3 225 running I think a 4.7 and both also have great character and work ethic. This also adds some validity to their class ranking a little more. I remember seeing some posts saying that CHCs younger classes may have the 5th or 6th best class in the state.

A great point these early offers are more about potential than what they are now.. Some of those offered kids wont help CHC much this season but in a couple years they should mature into a tough squad... Also true about the college coaches they are just getting in early to keep tabs on kids they like.. if they dont mature into d1 players then you can bet the LOI will never come in the mail... Take a kid like Sills. If Kiffen leaves there is no guarantee the new HC would also extend the offer... actually we had a kid last season almost lose his offer.. The kid with an offer to UCLA from the previous coach which was based on 1on1 camps and not film... The new coach after seeing his 2010/2011 highlight tape from Canada was pulling the offer luckily for him Coach DT was able to send him tape of the huge improvement he made at RLCA last year and got the offer back on the table and he signed.. This is also a credit to the kid because he didnt just rest on the offer and coast last year.. He worked very hard last season to be a better player.. Had he not done that he would have lost that offer... These young player with offers need to know this.. all early verbals are is a coach saying.. I like your potential so keep up the hard work and stay in touch...but the player has to keep working in school and on the field to reach that potential all the way though their senior season..

A lot of what you are saying is very true. Times are definitely changing.

I'm not talking of Smith and Scroggins, I'm speaking of the rising Sophomore Class. When I say two years I mean this being the 2nd football season Card has been touting them.

Just because Scroggins and Smith have offers doesn't mean that they are better players or considered better by people around the youth league circuit. It means that they are making the camp and combine circuits more than the other players. And also their offers are being publicized. CHC's Class isn't better than DM's, Gilman's or GC's. Would say that MSJ's Class is also right there with them. But looks like CHC might have gotten a boost, looks like Steven Smothers is in Summer School there(per Card) and if all goes well will be at CHC not Franklin. So at best CHC's Class on paper is fourth best.

You make a great point, a lot of these offers these kids who have never played a down on varsity mean nothing. If they come out and get exposed on the Varsity level, coaches will pull these offers quick fast. Eventually they will have to prove it on the field.

By the way, congrats to you guys. Heard you won another big tourney this past weekend in my hometown! You guys are looking to be a buzz saw right now!

Thanks,, The boys had a great 7on7 season they actually took their first and only loss in that tournament to Team Delaware Elite of all teams.. We did come back to knock them out in the semi's and beat a really strong Michigan team in the final... But thats all well and good and 7on7 is what it is.. its time for some much needed time off and then turn our focus to real football.... 7on7 is great for summer exercise and competition but it takes a lot of time to adjust back to the real game..

CHC's class of '15 was evenly split between JV and Fresh-Soph. That class is shaping up to be a good one. There are several rising sophs who could provide depth and fight for playing time this season on the varsity. OL/DL Romel Little is in the mix for major playing time on the defensive line. DB/WR Dionte Austin, DB/WR Juantez McCrae, LB Jaire Dorsey, DB/RB Damien Farmer and OL Marcellus Harrison are just a few of the sophomores poised to make the jump to varsity this season. Throw in 2011 Freshman team players Marcus Hicks (DL/RB), Bresean Davis (LB/FB), Jaelon Linton (DB/RB) and Lawrence Cager (WR/P) and the future is bright for CHC.

It's telling that you are jokingly touting CHC's youth as being capable of running the table and winning the league in 2012. Covering all your bases, huh? It is clear though that Gilman has the more experienced team returning this season. Maryland commit Shane Cockerille and Michigan commit Henry Poggi lead an all-Galaxy list of future Hall of Famers that include Robert Branch, Melvin Kiehn, Wyatt Dickerson, Micah Kiser and Chibuzo Ukandu. You've been hyping these guys as potentially the best ever at their positions at Gilman for about 3 or 4 years now. It's a wonder that anyone has beaten or even scored a point against the Greyhounds with such superstars at Poggi's disposal.

What I do know is that CHC has split the last four games against your Roland Park bullies and will probably be playing Gilman again for the MIAA championship this November.

92 Card 15 of 22 new starters is not a reson to take a back seat to say this team will not be successfull just because they are young and may not be the best team in the league. I believe that BigSky just used the wrong words. The presure is not on the Coaches, but it will show what kind of Coaches CHC really has. Any one can coach talent, but can you coach up players and make them into talented players. On Defense I have no doubt, but Offense and the main calls we will see this year for sure.

That first game will be talent vs. strategy. Who will WIN? Can't wait. Hope CHC don't play at Gay street though.

Because to me, if you have 5 Cyrus's on your team, although young, you should easily be the best team in the area!
LOL... That's a good one. Are you really going there? LOL 15 D1 players? You may have got Harco to bite, but your statements are off the deep end ABSURD! There can only be ONE spin maestro/passive aggressive propagandist and it's you Greyhound. A passing compliment coming from you here and there to fool the sheep does not take away from your agenda. We know you are the best at baiting people and getting them to underestimate you. Shame on anyone who takes your CHC posts for the truth and can't remember the contradiction between your previous and current posts.

I'll bite for the heck of it....You really cited Cyrus? Oohhhhkayyy. Two days from now you will remind us about Gilman's "policy" for not announcing scholarship offers for underclassmen. LOL. You have been promoting high profile transfer from New Mexico for months (Kai Locksley) as the next Cyrus on offense and incoming high profile transfer Troy Vincent Jr as being the next Cyrus on defense. Last year you were saying it's Branch, whom I think is going to be a great player. Don't get it twisted, my mentioning Branch was a response to your statement about this guy and that guy being the "next Cyrus". You sound alot like Gilman's heir apparent HC who told an incoming CHC freshman he wanted him to be the "next Darius" last fall while recruiting him. LOL. Gilman is outspending every other school in the league exponentially. Gilman has more high profile transfers than every other MIAA team combined, thanks to the two highest paid mercenaries in HS football in this country. In your own words, this incoming class at Gilman is their best ever and will be an all star team ranked the top 10 in the nation next year. There we have it.

You have said that the folks at Gilman are working soooooo much harder than everyone else in the off season. That belief is insulting to everyone else, including the Dionte, his CHC classmates and every other kid in the league busting their tails who were not fortunate enough to attend school at 5407 Roland Ave. They may not have entered high school with the same hype as the ballyhooed 8th graders you mention headed to DeMatha & the Gilman All Star team (your words). However, they have worked very hard and now some of them have been acknowledged for busting their tails.

As for your comment about me hyping specific players in the class of 2015 last year, I said (over and over and over again) the class is very deep with good football players. The class of 2016 has a couple more highly rated players, but it is shaping up to be very deep as well. Within the past few months alone, I have said (over and over again) the CHC varsity team could very well take some early lumps this season. However, I have also stated (over and over again) the program is in better shape from top to bottom than it was 3 years ago. If you want to twist my words, have at it.
