Default How did "Black" Atlanta surpass "Black" Baltimore in economic development??

Atlanta is still considered a prosperous place for Black people who are forward-thinking, have vision and etc. What happened to Baltimore?

    Atlanta still offers a lot:

    - great weather for 9 mos

    - majority Black

    - diverse population

    - trees, trees, trees (known as the "city in a forest")

    - reasonable cost of living

    - colleges, universities, trade schools all over the place

    - clean

    - business opps

    - pretty good number of health food stores and some vegetarian restaurant options

    - decent public transit system

    - a few Black bookstores still remaining, and presence of Black institutions (real and perceived)

    - nice nightlife for the married and single (though I still don't buy the "ratio" hype), cool daytime options

    - interesting intown neighborhoods, nice suburbs, access to rural and small town areas

    - only a two-hour flight to Miami

For one thing, the population in Atlanta probably learned how to use links to support their forum assertions and foster discussion.

My guess is that the white minority in Baltimore City is to blame.

Why do you still live in Baltimore? All you do day in and day out is make threads about how black Baltimoreans suck. Why are you here?

Many reasons why Atlanta is doing better.... Much better housing stock, powerful suburbs (much larger then Baltimore's), lower taxes, location, newer streets, etc

So True. Half of Ga is called "Atlanta" almost. It's analagous to calling Bethesda "Baltimore"...

When visiting ATL you gotta be sure you google your hotel...you could end up in E. Bummelfuqq...

Also, during the period of development, the black community had the great fortune of having a group of "black leaders who had conviction to self and group, Had courage and were possessed of great vision. Baltimore, on the other hand is cursed with petty, small minded, selfish and devious "leadership. This made all the difference.

Read Floyd Hunter's books about Atlanta and you'll understand. The business community runs the city.

American Black Elite Vs Lower class Black America eh?
Why didn't you just do Prince George's and Randallstown vs Baltimore?

Let's just pit the classes against one another

If you are not offering solutions or personally implementing any action than this is pointless.

Whats the situation in Atlanta Vs Baltimore as far as black owned businesses? Here the small grocery, take out and liquor stores are predominately Asian. Are those places mostly run by black folk in Atlanta?

A quick look at your link does not seem to address my question. You say that most or all of the little businesses are run by blacks. Can you link specifically to that being the case in Atlanta? A quick Google search shows that Atlanta has one of the fastest growing Asian (Korean) populations in the country.

They have a serious footprint in Atlanta as far as food establishments. Where did you get your info that most "to all" such businesses are run by black folks?
