Question Need help from Older Orioles fans...

Back in the 1950's, the Orioles had an infielder named Jim Brideweser. Thru various internet sites I can find out just about anything about the man and the ballplayer.

Except... how on earth was his name pronounced??? Anybody out there who can help me??? I have been going with "Bride (like a new wife) - Wheezer (like the guy from Little Rascals) ", without any idea if that is correct or not. And, while we're at this, how do you pronounce the last name of one-time Orioles outfielder Sam Mele? Is it like a baseball fight (Melee)?

Mele, I would guess to be 'meal-y'. At least that's how the former sheriff of Harford County pronounced it.

It's some kid with the same surname Brideweser. I bet if you leave a comment on how to pronounce his name on his skiing video, he'll probably tell you.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea that anyone would find themselves talking about this obscure ballplayer from the 50's, with enough regularity, that it became necessary to know how to pronounce his name correctly.

who would know if you weren't?

Weird-O, this cracked me up!! Truth is, I doubt if in my entire life I have mentioned this fellow's name out loud. You know how old school baseball fans are though, they look at you like you're an idiot if you pronounce Bobby Knoop as "noop" rather than the correct "ca-NOP" (...in fact, I just may guilty of doing just that!). Just wondering about something that guys like Chuck Thompson and Ernie Harwell handled in their stride back in the day. Thanks for the other responses, as well. I have been subscribing to the theory that Mele is pronounced more like Jason Bere than like Aaron Sele. Next week I'll be asking about former outfielder Chuck Oertel. (Like a turtle without the first letter???)
