I'm talking about pennant race deals. Glenn was in the offseason and it was a good deal at the time. Best power hitting 1B in the National league in his prime for 1 really good prospect and 2 avg prospects. Would have been like us trading Tillman,Berken and Reimold 4 years ago for P Fielder

Since June 8, Thome is batting .310 with all five of his home runs and all 15 of his RBIs to go with an 1.110 OPS (.714 slugging). In interleague play, he batted .342 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 12 games.

Thome was only a pinch hitter in the National League but has gone on a tear during inter-league play as the DH. It certainly can't hurt as long as we gave up very little. He could certainly provide some pop as DH in the American League.

Lino is hitting a whopping .218 with 4 HR"s halfway through the A-ball season at Delmarva. No big loss.

Kyle Simon hasn't shown much at Frederick (2-8 this season with an ERA near 4.00.)

Doesn't appear that we gave up much for Thome.

Thome hits well in this ballpark and should provide some pop but we still need a corner infielder and a top of the rotation pitcher. No its not cricket but I will be watching the Spain v Italy game tomorrow afternoon!

I'm no Lino fan but the goobers in the O's blogosphere say he's a 19 yr old with tools and a big upside. Duquette speaks "We've been working on this deal for a week. Had to improve the lineup against righties and he's a great leader and teammate"

"Great leader and teammate" are the things people say when they can't praise someone's performance.

Don't like this trade one bit. Have a hard time believing Lino's trade value is Jim Thome

He's a power hitter....power hitters don't generally hit for average.

And when you write "5 homers 15 rbi," so blase-ly you make it sound as if you were not aware that he is a pinch hitter right now for Philly, and has only played in 30 games. He'd be playing a lot more than that for the Orioles.....5 HR and 15 RBI over 30 games = a home run every 6 games, an RBI every other game. Extrapolate that out over the course of a full season, and they are pretty good numbers, which I'll take for a DH right now. Maybe you see someone else on this team for the DH role who would be good for 27 HR and 81 RBI....?

Oh yeah, you forgot a stat; .854 OPS.........that's good enough to be better than anybody else on the whole team, with the exception of Adam Jones' .889.
