If Grienke signs for 5 years I'd give up Machado, sure.

While I'm not a fan of the O's doing this for Grienke, because of his emotional issues, I wouldn't be opposed of this type of trade for another top pitcher.

Greinke would love Baltimore: Small crowds and no pressure.

I watched Machado many times when he first signed and was playing for the Shorebirds at Delmarva. You didn't have to know which player was him to recognize him, he stood out, head and shoulders among the players of both teams on the night in maturity, professionalism, athleticism and as a baseball player. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the real deal. But he can't pitch, at least not to the level the O's need right now and for the future.

Right now the O's need an Ace to anchor a shaky rotation, we already have the best bullpen in baseball and the best closer. With Bundy on the horizon and Greinke leading the pack, baring injury the O's would have a very competitive pitching staff.

Greinke probably wont be enough to get us to the post season this year put position player FA's this off season looking at the pitching staff and depth the O's will have for 2013 would have no problem coming to Baltimore whatsoever.

As much as I like Machado, I would rather have Greinke and if Machado is what it needs to get the deal done then I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat!

I don't disagree with that, in principle.

But the O's have only two prospects worth anything. To trade one of them for an Ace pitcher might seem like a good move.

But is Greinke that Ace ? Um...

I've asked myself that same question and sat on the fence for a couple of weeks. The answer I came up with is that Greinke is the best and closest pitcher to an Ace that might conceivably choose Baltimore as far as I can see into the future that would not want to be in Boston or New York. So get her done!

Would one Ace pitcher (who would, btw, be a good #3 or #4 on a good pitching staff) turn things around for the O's ?

I'm sorry, but the O's woes are far deeper than that.

How deep will the Nats woes be when they lose top starter Stephen Strasburg down the stretch due to an innings limit.

Because we heard that same thing when the so called "young guns" were brought up.

Seems like a never ending cycle...Nothing is a sure thing
No team is really in position to ever trade a top 5 prospect. Not in today's game where cost controlled quality players are more important than ever. Only time I would ever think about trading on is when your trading for that last piece of the puzzle in order to win a World Series.

There's a huge difference between the young guns we've brought up before (outside of Wieters) and these two.

Grienke would be a 1 or a 2 on most staffs.
The real problem is, the guy has emotional issues that would make him a liability in the AL East.

They'll go from clearly the best rotation in the game to merely arguably the best rotation in the game.

    Regardless, I like the guy.

And he'd help the O's rotation a lot.

But they are currently something like 11th in the AL. What would he put them up to, the 8th best ?

With their questionable offense, is that enough ?

Depends if Britton can turn it around at the Major League level when he comes up on Tuesday.

Ain't no Britton worth anything nowadays, so why should he be any different ?

You dont give up any of your top 10 ranked players in your minor league system unless you know you are going to be in the WS.

It's funny how time and lack of performance changes perception on this board. I still remember when the "young guns" were the talk of the town
