I wouldn't mortgage the future in the hopes of making it to a one game playoff.

in Byng's scenario, he's signing on to stay with the O's for a few years. so it's not really mortgaging the future. it's swapping an impact position player of the near future for an impact pitcher.

I liken it to trading Hamilton for Strasburg.

Greinke has the "if" of whether he can handle the pressure of competing in the ALe. Machado has the "if" of whether he's another can't miss prospect that will be a bust.

No, not even close. Hamilton may be the best pure hitter in the game. And Strasburg >> Greinke. And any trade involving Machado or Bundy is stupid. We would only trade them for someone like Trout or Harper and neither WAS or LAA will do that, obviously.

I'd trade one of them for Andrew McCutchen, Strasburg, or Kershaw too, but that's probably the end of my list (Maybe King Felix as well)

I would not trade Bundy's potential for anyone, but he is the only player IMHO that should be considered 'untouchable'!

I hope they do not give up Bundy or Machado for Grenkie.. NO way !! I know Grenkie puts up crazy good numbers but C'mon this guy has anxiety issues. He's pitched in the Central division of the A.L and N.L . Do you really think this guy has the mental toughness to pitch in the Beastly A.L East ? I say we pass up on this if they ask'n for Bundy or Machado..

Greinke sports a 3.08 ERA on the season and has won nine versus two losses. Striking out almost a batter per inning pitched (106 to 108), he can dominate a game. Throw out his two debacles versus the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs (five innings pitched, fifteen earned runs) and his ERA is suddenly a cool 1.92 and his record is a perfect nine wins against no losses.

just to clarify, I'm not comparing Machado to Hamilton or Greine to Strasburg. I was offering an example of a very good position player for a very good pitcher. if my examples don't work, fill in the blanks with a position player and pitcher that you would consider to be a good one-for-one trade.

that was what I was trying to say.

Ohh Im not doubting the numbers one bit... Im just stating he is doing it playing in the NL CENTRAL. He's played in K.C and he's played in Milwaukee. No expectations No preassure, a perfect comfort zone for a guy with his health conditoin. I can't see him putting up them kind of numbers with the preassure that would be put on him here in B-more and having to go into Yankee Stadium, Fenway, and Tropicana field on a regular basis. Im not doubting his talent I'm doubting his mental toughness. Even A.J Burnett looks like a Cy Young winner leaving from the A.L East to the N.L Central. Would I want Grenkie on my team NO DOUBT. but not at the expense of Bundy and Machado

I agree. If anyone has seen either of those prospects, one would be crazy to give them up at this stage. Of course, they could get injured or never live up to expectations in the future. Then again, they could become the missing links we have anticipated for so long.

The problem the Orioles have is that they don't have enough talent beyond those two for trade bait. That doesn't mean though that they give up on the marquee players to rent decent major league talent.

Nobody is suggesting that the O's give up any prospect for a second half rental!

And he'd help the O's rotation a lot.

But they are currently something like 11th in the AL. What would he put them up to, the 8th best ?

With their questionable offense, is that enough ?
I think people underrate how much Markakis lengthens the lineup.
They are going to be a lot better offensively when he starts up again.

    Mahoney
    Hardy
    Nick
    AJ
    Thome
    Davis
    Wieters
    3b
    2b

That's not a murderer's row, but that is a decent lineup that should start to put up more runs.
And yes, I think Mahoney should stay up and play 1st. He's got speed and a decent batting eye, and he's a 1b, something they really lack.

I probably would too! But the mistake that some are making with Bundy is because he is no longer mowing pitchers down like he was in Delmarva (and that was sweet to watch) they think he has hit a roadblock in playing level at Double A.

That is not necessarily true because he is being made to pitch his least affective pitches to hone those pitches to the best level he can, so is not pitching for him, his more natural game. Once he has honed those pitches to the needed standard and is allowed to pitch a more natural game with the use of his fastball at the percentage he would normally use it, I think you will find that his numbers will again be more in line with Delmarva than they presently are. Certainly the game gets harder as you go up the ladder but my point is that Bundy is one phenomenal pitcher who could be in Baltimore much quicker than some think and possibly as early as next season. That is the reason if I had to trade one of them right now it would be Machado rather than Bundy, because with Machado, what you see right now is what you get, with obvious upside but in Bundy's case he is actually a lot better than we are seeing right now because he is pitching to order and not being allowed to pitch his own game.

I'm not underestimating Bundy....he's way to young and inexperienced for people to be doing that already yet I'm sure some are....I believe he will be a true #1 and put up some real superstar like numbers. But at this point it's still speculation.

IMO, Trout has already proven himself...

I just think Trout will be the best all around player in the league within the next 2-3 years if not sooner.

But their are others I would trade Bundy for also....Verlander, Kemp, Miquel Cabrera. Cargo, Kershaw are a few

Nope, one starting pitcher won't put them in the playoffs. Two top of the rotation arms and two legit slugger 3/4 bats... who knows. That would get them a lot closer. Where would they be right now with two consistent quality starting pitchers, and 2 or 3 bats the caliber of (for example) Holliday, Cabrera, Fielder, Beltre, Teixeira, Gonzalez, etc in the heart of the order?

Of course these things cost you... both in prospects and money. They can't sit around terrified of "spending" both. Well, they can...

You don't trade a superstar SS who has 10-15 years left of high end performance for a starting pitcher who has maybe 5 years left of high end performance. Ask Atl how Feliz,Andrus and Harrison for Mark T worked out. Even if they had re-signed him that's a bad deal.

I get the idea, but who is the superstar SS you're talking about?

Machado. 3rd best prospect in baseball according to Law, everybody else's top 10.
