When Irsay promoted him to the head coaching spot, he had that same blank lost look on his face no matter what the game situation was. And without Manning to bail him out with 30+ points a game cushion, he floundered to a two win season. Hell he didn't even see the axe coming after losing 14 games. And somehow this is the guy who is going to turn Flacco into a franchise qb?
no debate, my pet rock knows more about football than you do, pebbles....

you ought to be aware of how some people rise to their level of incompetence seeing as how you rose to french frier but quickly sank back to the bucket and mop brigade....caldwell's failures as a head coach don't translate to failure as a coach....

you might as well get used to 2-14 seasons since the dolts were a one trick pony as it were....

OK Fawn, from the linked article in post #1:

"Manning gave Caldwell a strong recommendation when Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and coach John Harbaugh called him when Caldwell became available. It was the same sort of recommendation Manning received from former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson after he had worked with Caldwell for one season in Tampa Bay".

"I remember Brad Johnson calling me and telling me how much he enjoyed having him in Coach Caldwell's one year in Tampa," said Manning, who first met Caldwell when he was the head coach at Wake Forest during the late 1990s and took his staff to see how the University of Tennesee ran its offense.

So I guess you're a better evaluator of NFL coaching talent than Peyton Manning??? Try reading the rest of the article where even Tony Dungy credits Caldwell with elevating Peyton's game.

What do you care? You are just here to troll and be 100% anti-Baltimore sports in every post. You have not had one interesting perspective or input of personal knowledge in any of your posts.

Gee, what would you expect Peyton to say about the terminated head coach? Jim was allowed to be head coach as long as he didn't interfere with Peyton's offense. If you don't think that Caldwell was Mannings puppet, then you didn't watch much Colts football.

You are quite the football Einstein. We released the greatest quarterback of all time who has possibly four years left in the tank to bring in the greatest quarterback prospect since Manning came into the league. Pretty confidant that 2-14 Colts seasons are just a day dream on your behalf. But hey, enjoy the combo of Joey Flacco and Jim Caldwell. I'll be thrilled watching meltdown.

greatest QB prospect since Manning...please, just stop now before you get fitted for a tie-in-the-back jacket....

you are right 2-14 might be a dream-- for you after this year's 1-15.......

your great one man franchise collapsed when you ill-advisedly pushed manning out the door....

PM is not even the greatest QB in colts history. Hell he might not even the best QB in his family.

He might be top ten all time. If he can get another ring.

And yet.....Pey did not have the weaponry that AL will have @ his dispersal. Pey had noone the caliber of Reggie (Marvin was just coming in to his own back then.) He did not have an old college buddy to be his reliable safety valve @ TE (as Coby will be.) His OLine was legendarily awful.

Pey also had a virtually non-existent D....a practical siv. AL will have guys like Dwight and Zibs and Angerer and Bethea to help put him in position to in games.

AL will also not have a sometimes nutty loose cannon as HC. I loved what Jim brought to the team back then.....but Pags will instill focus and discipline and determination to this team. All of which is needed for an admittedly young bunch. Factor it all up.....figure AL will outdo Pey by about 6 or so games for Year 1.

    Colts 2011 Defense:

    Total ypg: 25th
    Pass ypg: 15th
    Rush ypg: 29th
    Points pg: 28th

Quite the defense there. Pagano better be a miracle worker.

Well.....seeing as the league has become infinitely more of a passing one.....I'd say we have something to build on. I have every confidence that Pags will see the rest of it through.

That average at best pass defense should make the Colts feel good when they play Chris Johnson, Arian Foster and MJD twice a year.

CJ is unfortunately not quite what he once was....and he is getting no younger.

And MoJo may not even be in JAX by the time the season starts.....supposedly they're shopping him.

The problem was, is, and shall continue to be Cam Cameron. Until he's gone, no one will really know what Joe is capable of, and Caldwell is not going to stop it from being the Cam Cameron show.

    Wait a minute!!!!

First, it was Matt Ryan, then Mark Sanchez, then Cam Newton, then Luck, RG3 and Tannehill as the "...greatest quarterback prospect..."! How has that worked out???

    • Ryan has yet to win a playoff game.
    • Cam has yet to go to a playoff game without a ticket.
    • Mark Sanchez might not beat out Teebow as a starter.
    • and the Children, we'll see!

In the meantime, that so-called "small college QB who was going to be a project, if successful at all..." has racked up more wins than any QB in the History of the NFL except ONE in his first four years.

This is in combination with that same "deer in the headlights, unemotional, etc..." QB as being the ONLY QB to play in, and win, at least one playoff game in each of his first four years in the league - including road wins in the first four playoff seasons.
