State issued ID cards are $10 in NC. Free to those age 70 or older.
Have you been to a inner city DMV, if not, you shouldn't comment. 10 dollars is a lot to some people. BTW, most seniors don't have IDs. Not to mention the rush to get 760,000 IDs in 3 months.

One of the reasons that older african-americans hate voter ID is that they remember the intimidation and restrictions against them in the past. To them, voter ID is reinstating those restrictions.

The ACLU offers their take on this
    http://www.aclu.org/voting-rights

I suspect the reason many african-americans don't have an ID is complete distrust in the government, and history shows they have good reasons not to either.

Looks like my post was deleated. I wonder why. Mom of 4 why is the governor helping people in nursing homes get IDs and not poor older blacks in Philly?

You should see some of these DMV's in rural african-american counties here in South Carolina.. many of which are dozens of miles away

The real harassment comes when you try to vote absentee now or early voting. They actually tried to make it here in SC that you had to PHOTO COPY your ID and attach it to the absentee ballot. Feds threw out SC ID law and for good reason.

I wouldn't complain about paying an extra dollar in taxes so everyone could have an ID.

So don't pass an ID requirement 3 months before an election. Do it right after one so everyone has plenty of time to get one.

    btw - where'd that 760,000 number come from ?

Still think voter id is needed to prevent fraud.

Given that would be a ~350 mile trip for me, perhaps you could explain the difference.

Not to mention that a birth certificate and original social security card or their replacements need to be obtained before applying for that ID.

All he cared about is kissing his own party's butt and trying to keep blacks from voting.
Responsible Philadelphia voters will obtain a valid form of identification issued by the state. They have more than 100 days to do so. If they are hiding from the law or are too lazy to get the necessary ID well too bad for them. They obviously don't care enough about voting to comply with a reasonable law.

If they don't have a drivers license and don't want one, then they can get an Identification (ID) Card. http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/driverlic...gphotoid.shtml

    http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/licensing...identity.shtml

The process is easy and only someone who is hiding something illegal would fail to get an ID card.

but, if that is the only ID you can get so you can vote, that $10 is a charge for voting and that is considered a poll tax.....free and easily available is the correct way to do this ID process...however, free and easy isn't how the states want to do this....

the governor of PA told the truth.....there isn't an issue with fraud.....

Poll tax?? Nonsense. Faulty logic. FAIL.
