Default Bealefeld Signs Off as Baltimore Police Commissioner

No major headlines, just a couple of quick blurbs in the Sunpaper's "Crime Beat" and "View" sections. No shock here though. Just another case of one of the good guys trying to make a difference and not getting the credit they deserve. Most of us know why you REALLY stepped down Commissioner. Best of luck in your retirement...and a big thanks from those who care.

Another step backward for Baltimore city.

I second that and I must say, he finished with an outstanding e-mail. It touched all the bases.

Good riddance to a terrible commissioner protected by the local media and political powers that be.

    Big surprise

Maybe he resigned because Baltimore has the lowest homicide closure rate of any City over 500,000 people in the U.S. Or maybe it was the numerous incidents of police corruption under his watch.

So, posters come up with some cockamamie theory or reason that has no basis in fact, interject it as if they have some inside knowledge that something just has to be racial in some way, and then defend by proclaiming that no one can yet disprove it.

And then ~ when asked for an explanation as to what knowledge they might have to back up an obviously racial or other insinuated insidious reason for something like this departure as purported ~ they suddenly become silent.

    Is anyone really surprised?

The thinking on display is quite clear ~ The only way a non~white person can be named as Baltimore Police Commissioner is because of racial politics.

Conversely ~ the only way the next appointment cannot be the result of racial politics is if a white person is named.

Or at least that is what I am seeing as the reasoning being used on here, as if it is impossible that someone could be appointed based on their qualifications and experience regardless of their racial or ethnic background.

How sad it is that the latter is so difficult a thing for some to even consider ~ that an appointment might actually be made base on merit regardless of race.

Maybe Col Marcus Brown could return and lock into another special pension?

Don't you mean: "Maybe he resigned because ON PAPER Baltimore has the lowest homicide closure rate of any City over 500,000 people in the U.S."

It is quite simple... he was willing to look for and weed out corruption? He did not ignore it or sweep it under the rug like other PC's have done in the past. But, people will spin the results and ignore the intentions.
