    Default Browns Jinxed?

I think the Cleveland Browns Gods are not happy campers. They just get a new owner who said no more than a week before he purchased the Browns that he was 1000% a Steelers fan. So he buys the team and says things like it is a good investment opportunity and his goal is to put a winning team on the field. Hmmm interesting.

But now we have Joe Haden who might get suspended for using Adderall. We also have Richardson who looks like he has a bum wheel and may need some surgery from Dr. James Andrews. This guy doesn't do knee scopes he usually does major surgeries so this doesn't bode well. Then we have Fujita suspended, Gocong out for the year and the misery goes on and on...

    Makes you wonder doesn't it?!

Richardson's surgery is supposed to be pretty minor. I'm just surprised Adderoll is a banned substance.

Nobody is jinxed. When you scout poorly, draft poorly, trade poorly, and are coached poorly, you get what you get.

The Browns new owner also stressed that they'll make business decisions moreso than football decisions. Right out of the Peter Angelos book of ownership.

Unless the new owner is an idiot, or a poor businessman, he should know that if he wishes to grow the net worth of his franchise (investment), he has to do what he has to do to make them relevant. I think most businessmen want to make money on their investment, and that won't happen if he doesn't move the team foward. This isn't rocket science.

Are you kidding? Its an NFL franchise. Has anyone ever lost money on a major sports franchise?

Why? It is an amphetamine controlled at the highest level schedule II.

Sure. The Indian Pacers, Detroit Lion, any indoor football or soccer team. Some of the crappy NHL teams.

Soon to be the Indianapolis Colts

Buying major sports franchised today, is like buying rare coins or stamps.

Because of the massive purchase price you don't really expect to make a profit.

The profits come when the team is sold, later down the road.

You buy a rare coin, it produces no income. You are betting it will increase in value someday, same with most sport franchises.

Brown/Ohio fans are actually the best football fans I ever have come across. Pure football fans of the mid-west. Unlike those culturally perfected Hoosiers who believe that fuseball is the Devil.

You have to much worse than simple idiot or a poor businessman to lose money on an NFL team. Even if you try to intentionally lose money, you might not be able to do it.

According to a 2009 article in Forbes, both Miami and Detroit lost money (NFL). That was 2009. With the poor economy, I suspect the number of lower tier teams to also join that list, will grow.

As I said, if the new owner of the Brown's has any business sense, he's not simply gonna want to tread water. Cleveland is not a rich market with fans with lots of disposable income.

In terms of valuation change, you might look at this. A number of teams have recently lost value over a one year period, with the biggest losers being: St Louis, Jacksonville and Buffalo. Times are changing, and the endless cash flow of the NFL is beginning to show signs of saturation, or decline. Do people honestly believe the cash bubble can keep expanding? I don't. But I do believe that people will continue to support, with their hard earned dollars, products that are legit. Perpetual bottom feeders will loose the support, of at least, the casual fan.
