Pros? Cons? Anybody? Ken, can we call it O'Malley's Gambling since it is he who is introducing the bill?

for me the pro is the incrased revenue.

for me, the con is the increased revenue, as the expansion is so great, they will probably spend every penny before it even rolls in, and not toward the structural deficit either, but on new stuff the better to get re-elected with.

It is all just so silly. It should have been table games from the start and it should never have been a constitutional issue.

I swear I think Miller and Busch dragged this thing out for all of these years just to maximize lobbying time.

I loved the timing of the Perryville announcement this week. Another shot across the bow for MOM.

I would call it Miller's Gambling Law since he's the one who's forcing this session to happen.

Another good argument for term limits. When it gets to the point where one man can force the entire General Assembly to come back for one issue that he feels is important, then we need a mechanism to force change in the GA so one person does not become that powerful.

And don't get me started on pitbulls possibly being on the agenda. That isn't worth a special session, either.

Sounds good to me. We need to vote Miller and Busch out as soon as possible. (Of course, I've been saying this for years.)

Everything I've tried to post about Perryville slots downsizing generates a "Forbidden" message.

They're downsizing by one-third due to declining revenue.

Clue: Another poster says that certain words may trigger the "Forbidden" message.

This link by itself doesn't seem to get rejected:

Only idiots and corrupted politicians would now be meeting to expand gambling in Maryland.

    Meanwhile, In Delaware:

    Delaware expands sports betting venues
Delaware officials have expanded sports betting from the state's three casinos to more than 30 other locations.

Officials said today that betting on National Football League games is now available at 31 retail locations, including restaurants, pubs and nightclubs.

The expansion of sports betting was authorized under a new law that also allows online slot-machine and table-game wagers.
I guess that will be next year's special session.

problem is, only the voters in their respective districts can vote them out, and they bring home the bacon in thier districts. With the Senate Prez and Spekaer of the House as thier rep, they have real clout-- vote them out, and they have run of the mill rank and file reps.

And that's exactly what the special session is truly about. Paybacks for Baltimore and PG County. Thanks for keeping us in power...here's your casinos.

Doubt it, it's probably just the suck a** infrastructure this forum rides on.

Interesting. Hope we see a response. Maybe this is the bigger story?

Regarding the increased footprint gambling is making, Maryland is like a declining strip mall. Once full of nice retailers, they're moving out while the wig shops, nail salons, slots, and loan offices move in. Sad.

    .

It's the same old BS lie that it's for the children (education trust fund).

Until it's proven to me that the gambling revenue is really supplementing and not supplanting funds for education, I will continue to believe it's all BS!

BTW, didn't I recently read that with all the hype about huge gambling revenues that one state official stated that Md is still $70 million in the hole for the cost to the state for purchasing all of the machines for the s l o t s parlors?

This state is being run by idiots.

    Another clue:

My last post was being rejected as "Forbidden" until I changed the spelling of one word to "s l o t s". Without the embedded blanks between the letters, I got the "Forbidden" message.

And I used the word "gambling" in other places to replace that "Forbidden" word.
