Anyone care to tell us who the top rated QB in football is? Thanks in advance.
Anyone care to tell us who the top rated QB in football is? Thanks in advance.
Until I see it as a mainstay in the NFL I'll see it that way. I'm just hardheaded that way. I'll believe when I have seen it run for years on a regular basis.
I have always said that no matter how bad people think the deal was to get Griffen, Washington needed to make it. Teams that consistently draft well and work the FA wire the right way don't make those deals. Washington fans can call this hate all they want but that team has not done either well over the past 20 years.
Again only time will tell but I would back money on Luck being the better of the two when it's all said and done.
Wouldn't expect you to say anything different. You like to call people here homers but you are just as much of one as anyone here.
This I do know, Luck will be in the playoffs this year. This from a team that was just flat out awful last year and was expected to do pretty much be the same this year. Still don't know yet on if Griffen will be playing any extra games.
You would never admit it but if those two guys switched places you would say Luck is the better of the two.
Did you read what I wrote? I said my horrible defense would not be able to survive Luck's interceptions. You can keep pointing to their record as if it is all Luck but many times they have won despite him. He threw as many touchdowns to the other team as he did his own this week. I will take the highest rated passer in football over the 30th and that will never make me a homer. If it were the other way around, maybe.
It's about wins right? Or did things change and the NFL awards playoff spots due to QB ratings? Washington is 6-1 with Pierre Garcon playing 1-5 without him, maybe he is more the reason they win.
Listening to people who know far more than I do when it comes to the NFL Luck is ask to do more than Griffen. Maybe if they kept it much more simple with Luck his numbers would be better.
Mike Anderson out rushed Jamal Lewis his rookie year and won ROTY award over Jamal and I think it's safe to say Jamal ended up being a better NFL player.
Again right now if I started a team I would take Luck over Griffen. I think he is the more traditional NFL QB and until I see one of these guys who I hear about all the time that will change the position, I'm not sold on them over the long haul. Last year it was Cam, now it's Griffen.
Again say what you will but if Washington drafted 1st Luck would be on your team, tou would be ecstatic and you would be here saying he was the better of the two.
You can think what you'd like and keep ignoring what I wrote. I haven't seen anyone say Luck is asked to do more. If that explains why he has four times as many interceptions, keep using it. His team has been down and he has rallied them but often he has been the reason they were down. He also has beaten one winning team. Griffin has done better against a harder schedule.
I would be ecstatic to have either player. I just think RG3 fits well in DC.
Who's ignoring it? You are so lacking in any real depth that you rely on one stat for everything and ignore every other one. I guess you think Jim brown sucked because his team didn't win. When Garçon was out, Griffin found other receivers and how stats aren't much different.
Keep ignoring everything including the FACT that his running is a net positive. Only dimwits like you think it isn't.
Oh ****, here I was fixing Rg's knee and a gave him a lobotomy. Oh well, the turds in Landover and DC won't know it.
I think stats tell more than a win-loss record. You're the one too dim to understand the rest of them. I said YOU were the one who thought wins and losses were the end all be all until your guy lost to mine.
As a Ravens fan (now residing in central Florida), there are a couple of things I managed to take away from this game (and the football season as a whole), for both my Ravens and the Redskins. As this thread is more appropriate to RG3, I'll leave any discussion regarding the Ravens' shortcomings out of it.
The first thing I'd like to address is Griffin's injury. It came on a "scramble," as opposed to any designed "run" (so did his concussion against Atlanta in week 4-5), as a matter of fact, all of Griffin's seven rushing attempts in the game came off "scrambles." He actually hasn't been utilized very much at all (this season), in any set "run schemes."
"Scrambling" is a part of a QBs natural ability to extend plays, when it can't be done through the air. We see this option utilized a little more frequently with Aaron Rodgers et al. Heck, we even saw it with Flacco in Sunday's game (though he only did it once, which resulted in a vicious take down). So I don't fault Griffin for taking off (the way he did), especially since the Ravens' backfield did a decent job covering.
The issue we're ignoring here, is Washington's very poor pass protection. They can run block very well, but so can team's like Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, who are similarly poor at pass blocking. I've watched a number of these guy's play throughout the year, the Redskins being no exception, and there are literally, many a play, where Griffin has had no protection at all (i.e., the o-line will not cover against opposing pass rushers, who are very much able to get to the Washington QB). As a matter of fact, Gruden finally pointed this out on the MNF segment, prior to the Giants facing off against the Redskins. Matter fact, we saw an example of this during that very game, when Griffin completed a bomb to one of his receivers, whilst taking a vicious hit from one of the NY front men.
Griffin is actually quite good at going through his progressions/reads. If he senses a commitment (to the rush) from the opposing defense, he tends to hand it off to his back (smart play, as he's not going to get protection). This, coupled with the fact that Morris is a bruising power back, and the offensive line's competency at run blocking, is what provides the blueprint for Washington's "play action pass." When the receivers can break containment, Griffin burns most defenses with an accurate deep ball that is reminiscent of Rodgers'. Aesthetically, Rodgers' deep ball maintains that gorgeous spiral, that no one (not even Griffin) can replicate, but you don't get any extra style points in football. If aesthetics is what one is concerned with, then better for that person to take up diving or gymnastics.
On the flipside, when Griffin senses the opposing d's reluctance to rush him, he'll opt to either a) keep the football, to hit one of his TEs on a checkdown or b) keep it, to scramble if he can't find anyone open. He also has the option of handing it off to one of his backs (Morris or Young).
I've actually got more regarding Washington's poor pass block, but I actually want to see what other posters have to say before continuing. I've written quite a lot, and this can often result in posts being overlooked on forums.
Dre, I have to say that you're spot on with your assessment. The Skins O-line is horrendous when it comes to pass blocking. On clear passing downs, it is extremely rare that Griffin doesn't have a defender breathing down his neck. He gets hit in the pocket. He gets hit out of the pocket. Until the line gets better at pass blocking or they get better players, Griffin is going to be at risk for taking hits. Hell, he got blasted by Ngata while he was IN THE POCKET!
On another note, what's with all of the hostility being directed at Griffin? His only "sin" is that he was drafted by a team that you don't like. Looking at you BRLG. It's pretty much irrational. In response to my earlier post, you came back that you don't watch this team because "they suck." So how is your credibility not hurt by this? You don't have to like him or the Skins, but take off the purple blinders if you're going to critique the team and Griffin. He has put together a really nice season for himself and his team in only his rookie year. That can't be overlooked or minimized. He's only doing what he has been asked to. He is a competitor and if they continue to build around this young man, Washington will have a chance to play meaningful games for years to come.
Lastly, my responses will be few and far in between as I am not going to pay to use or view a message board!
Two very good posts, especially yours, Dre. You are spot on about the lack of pass protection. In time and with better lineman, Griffin will be a stellar pocket passer. As it stands, he needs to use his legs to avoid getting crushed and the pistol helps this as well.
Ok junior. Then explain if gimp's stats are the same in all those losses when Garcon doesn't play and are the same when he does play during all those wins why such a descrepancy (which is night and day desparate) in the W-L record without/with Garcon? Cmon genius, explain that? I guarantee you that you can't.
I don't have to explain it. You're the one acting as if Garcon is the only reason for the wins so you need to explain how Griffin's stats are the same without him. Actually, don't bother, you're already painful to read. I don't need to see more ignorance from an old turd.
