Jim Caldwell for Offensive Coordinator

Caldwell for OC is ridiculous. First of all he has NEVER been an OC ever. Second of all he is not a great leader. Yes he is a very good posisiton coach, but if you look at any of his teams of which he was to lead them, he didnt do good. Yes he took a Colts team to the Super Bowl, but did he really do anything or was that Manning. He was a horrible head coach at Wake Forest before then and only got the job in Indy as a position coach because of his closeness with Dungy.

Dont get me wrong, Caldwell has improved Flacco already with carrying out his fakes and some of his footwork. Lets not get carried away though.

The sad thing about this is that Cameron this past January in the AFL playoff in New England made a great play call and Flacco executed it perfectly to Board Hands Evans who let it be stripped away. He makes the catch and they are SB bound with good chance of beating the Giants. Such is life.

The sad thing about this is that the Ravens wasted too many years with Cam Cameron. You simply cannot have a dysfunctional relationship between your QB and your OC. Everyone in the football world knew about it, and they waited way too long to do something about it. But at least they were able to cut their losses in time to try to salvage the season.

He's a stopgap, interim coordinator @ this juncture. If someone's available this off season I'm looking to see if they pursue him. If they improve in execution maybe but thats a big if.

I don't think that this is necessarily true - that Caldwell will be an interim coordinator and that they will go get somebody else in the off season - although I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Joe's got 5 years of experience with the existing playbook - which I imagine has virtually every type of play in it. The issue in my mind has always been what type of play do they call, when do they call it, how do they staff it (personnel selection on the field) and how do they execute it (formation and scheme). In a sense its more of a management issue than it is a philosophical one (whether its Air Coryel or West Cost or something other)

I think that Caldwell is an intelligent guy with a wealth of experience (being in the NFL coaching Manning for all those years). Its not his problem he didn't have a Manning clone in his hip pocket at Indy when Manning went down.

He appears to be an even handed individual and someone who Flacco likes and respects - and I think that you will see a dynamic developing between Flacco and Caldwell over the last few games of the season and into the playoffs that will be difficult to break going into next season.

The team personnel issues (O line, defense, injuries) will be the limiting factor in the playoffs - determining exactly how far they go. I imagine that it will be like the last four years - win the first but lose the second.

But I think the prospect of a non Cameron led offense, with the 2013 draft, the off season and the rejiggling of personnel holds great promise for next season and the years beyond it
