Miami ran a dirty program back then and brought the negative attention on themselves...too bad the UM players didn't recognize their own part in the issue...but back then football was king at Miami, at the expense of the school...the administration had it right when they wanted to kill football, but then along came Howard Schnellenberger.....the school, being a private institution with a somewhat decent academic institution, didn't need the bad publicity....

and how foolish is it to think going to college would actually mean getting an education...

I would like to know the graduation rate of Miami back then and put it up against ND’s.
    That was a joke.
Here is something very profound to think about. There is a very, very good football player that will attend ND next year. He said during the recruiting process it came down to one thing and one thing only. He looked at the African American Graduation Rate among ND Football players. The recruiting process came to an end.
Do you really think that Jimmy Johnson or the school gave a bleep about the Miami players graduating back then?
The whole Catholic vs. Convict thing is nothing more than someone being smart, putting it on a T Shirt and making money. Good on em.
I think it was Jimmy Johnson who said when someone questioned the low graduation rate for his players that if you want an education go to Harvard.

Yeah but you can also say that Jimmy Johnson ran UM like a plantation. Along as you give them drugs, women and Uncle Luke records that will keep them happy. Who cares about a Education thats for the white folks.

If they get by USC next weekend, it increasingly looks like they might face Alabama.

    Ouch.

Note to ND fans: Be careful what you wish for.

Georgia will beat Alabama in the SEC championship game.....it looks like Barkley is out for SC next week....just the thought of ND playing in the championship game is killing you, isn't it?

So, as a ND fan, if you do play in the NC game, would you rather face Alabama, KState or Oregon? That was my point. I think 'Bama will get by Georgia. They usually fold in big games.

As to your comment of, "better to be inside, than outside". Well, of course...BUT, bet there are quite a few OSU fans who wish they hadn't played in the NC games in 2006 and 2007. Getting in, is one accomplishment. Competing and/or winning is quite another. I remember after both embarrassments by OSU, their fans got run off every sporting board. I think those two debacles for OSU, opened up continual doubt and criticisms for their program, which continue today. So, I'll say it again - be careful what you wish for? Alabama, KState or Oregon? Any preference...not that it's your choice to make?

Hey mouth, anything more to say about my surgery? Anymore personal attacks?

Did you even go to college? Most certainly not ND, as you have no class. Just another mouthy bandwagon fan spewing noise.

I'd rather face Alabama....they didn't do well against A&M's mobile quarterback and frankly, the ND defense is just as good as Alabama's.....I really believe Georgia will beat them in the SEC championship game...

by the way, as a MD alum, I am all for the school moving to the BIG, just for how it benefits the school economically....it's a step up football wise, maybe a small step down for basketball and a step down in lacrosse (for now)......who knows maybe they might even restore some of the teams they just lopped off earlier this year...

I'm not sure? ND beat Stanford, and Stanford just beat Oregon....so, if I was a ND fan, I would feel pretty confident they could compete and prob beat Oregon. KState just go blown up, bigtime, so not sure what their issue is right now, but they also look beatable. Alabama barely lost, and I suspect that was not indicative of their real potential....just remember, and up until that loss, some folks were actually saying Alabama could beat some NFL teams. Not sure I buy that, but I still think we haven't seen the best Alabama has to offer.

I use to believe in Georgia, and maybe they will come through this year. My wife is from Atlanta, so I sort of follow the DAWGS. But I've seen them lay too many eggs in big games to get on their bandwagon. Sort of like VaTech does in the post season.

As far as Md is concerned - I honestly don't think it will happen unless someone puts up the $50 mil buyout fee from the ACC. Will a rich donor poney-up the $$$? Doubtful, since most have a long history in the ACC.

The surgeon should have given you a sense of humor cry baby. Yea after the service went to college and law school on GI bill. That good enough for you. Keep on saying the Irish are overrated and cant beat this team and that team etc etc as they close in on a National championship.

Umm, see post #31. Get yourself some new glasses there, gramps, because you apparently can't read.

As I said - just another ND bandwagon fan. Although in your case, I'll also add classless and loud mouth.

according to ESPN, Maryland is moving to the BIG...I have a feeling Plank plunked down some money to aid the cause...

A student of mine said that Plank (apparently) sold about $60 mil of stock not too much before this deal. No idea whether there's an validity to what my student said?

That said, ESPN reported today that Plank was 100% behind this move....so, that adds some validity to this.

First they have to beat SC. If they do I think they match up better against Bama. I think it would be a 17-10 game either way. I think they handle K St but Oregon scares the Holy BaJesus out of me. In any case, I am just happy they have a chance to go to the Show. Again, they have to beat USC first.

Well, with Barkley out, ND should be the clear fovorite this weekend.

    Seems like USC is imploding.
