    Default Ed "Butter Fingers" Dickson

I am surprised Ed Dickson gets a free pass for another dropped pass. The end zone miss in the Cowboys game was very playable and would have been snagged by Dennis Pitta (and for that matter Lee Evans). I have no confidence in his big play ability and would be fine to see him move on.

    Thoughts?

I say give Billy Bajema some prime time looks. He looked pretty solid in the preseason.

He has had is block knocked off on a couple of occasion and does not trust Flacco. He does not trust what he's being led to when Flacco throws him the ball. Flacco throwing recievers open is not his strength.

Joe generally doesn't leave his receivers out to dry in the middle of the field. It's a big reason why we lament them not "using the middle" enough, but it's also a big reason why the WRs hardly EVER show up on the injury report for this team. Boldin's been pretty much a staple in the starting lineup since he's been here, where in Arizona he spent a lot more time on the report or on the sideline. Dickson's taken a few big hits, but it's not like he's the only one, and they're not THAT frequent. The drops aren't on Joe, Ed just has to catch the ball when he puts two hands on it. If he doesn't trust Joe and gets alligator arms here, with this team, than he'll never stick on ANY NFL roster for long... because I can't think of another QB who takes BETTER care not to get his receivers crushed.

It is pretty obvious Flacco looks for Boldin and Pitta when he has to make retain possession passes. He trusts them for a good reason: they have good hands.

Ed Dickson has yet to really make any game changing catches. It seems to me Pitta makes a ton of 3rd down conversions in that regard. I could see them letting Dickson walk and keeping Pitta.

Watch Ozzie let Pitta walk in favor of Butter Fingers after next season.

If it comes down to a choice, it's not even close.

He had try trouble catching an easy roll out pass fom Joe today. The pass was a 4 yarder, he was wide open and yet he juggled the ball. He has awful hands.

    1. Some people WERE saying this last year. In fact, MOST fans and experts alike felt as if Pitta had replaced Dickson as the #1 TE.

    2. What does last year have to do with this year?

His rookie year Dickson played like he had better hands than he does now. Last year it seemed like he dropped more passes as the season went on. This year it seems like he drops everything. I know that's probably exaggerating (probably) but the guy seems to be regressing with time, which is sort of strange. That's why you're seeing things said about him now that weren't being said at all in 2010, or the earlier half of 2011.

It did seem like he played very well in his first year. They both did. And were a great tandem.
