Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick finished fourth on the list with 4 percent of the players' votes, while Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis (3 percent) was fifth.

Not really. At this point in his career, he is probably overrated. People mostly just remember what he used to be, and carry it over.

I think the Lewis one is a bit unfair. Yes he is still talked about a lot but the focus has shifted from plays he makes to how great of a motivator,mind for the game and his on field ability to read plays and put his D in a position to succeed.

But no player in the NFL is nearly as overrated as Sports Illustrated.

The media hates Tim Tebow. Always have. And they doubled down on their hatred when he spoke out on abortion several years ago. Ever since they have tried to tempt Tebow into saying the wrong thing out of frustration. And they hate the fact that he has avoided falling into their trap. When did anyone ever call Tebow a superstar ? I think most people see Tebow as a mediocre talent....but one that somehow is always on the field when his team does something miraculous. How many plays has Tebow even played this year ? How is a backup QB overrated ? Does anyone think that Tebow isn't at least better then 50% of the backup QBs in the league. This story is just a complete fabrication because they wanted to do a negative story on Tebow. Mind you I'm not a Tebow fan or hater, just an observer. Not am I a Jet fan or hater. But I can tell a story where the author starts with the end result he wants and then creates the story to fit it.

On physical performance I would agree that he is overrated at this point. But he brings more to the team as you say than just physical abilities. That is why on other threads when people have said his loss may be the Raven's gain, I disagree. Before the snap, Lewis moves people around and puts them into position to make the play. I don't see anyone else on the Ravens that can do that and I believe the defense will suffer for it. The physical abilities have declined, but his ability to read offenses before the snap and counter them will not be reproduced by the likes of Ellerbee, Mclean, and the others. They have the physical ability to play the position, but lack the on the field knowlege that Lewis has to prevent big plays before they happen. It will not show up in the stats, but it will show up in the overall ranking of the defense at the end of the year and in the points allowed column.

Tebow can't be overrated because the Jets are rarely using him and when he has played he has not F ed up so far.

Not to me. Ray Lewis should have retired before this season. He was once the best player in the league. Last year he was below average. This year he is terrible. He just continues to tarnish his image by playing. And if the team lets him come back next year they will be tarnishing the image of the Ravens. Every player has to retire at some point.

Tebow doesn't play enough in my opinion to be considered "overrated". Heck, John Fox called ME to see if I wanted a roster spot last year (I was busy) before he relented and went with Tebow. But media attention and overrated are two different things to me.

Michael Vick... there's a guy that's long been overrated by fans, media, and players alike. Jay Cutler is another. Guys who play a lot, get "elite" level praise by fans and media all over, then routinely kill their teams at crucial times.

Most of the players who are past their prime have to be shoved out the door because of the money they make. Cant make nearly as much when playing days are over and a lot of them unfortuately never heard of the concept of saving money when they are playing.
