The Orioles will not pursue another 2nd baseman for next season.

I guess there are worse 9 hole hitters.

    Little better fielder than Andino
    Little better hitter than Andino

Result: The Orioles get a little better.

With the DD operated last season this guy and two other acquired second basemen could be gone by the time the season starts.

    Eh...not a bad idea.
I think they are expecting that Schoop is going to push his way to the majors, especially the way he's been playing - so they don't have to find a long term option. A platoon is fine while they wait for him.

for at least the last couple of years he has been pretty awesome against left handed pitching. So I guess the idea is Flaherty to bat against righties and Casilla against lefties. And that means that Andino's future with the club is tenious at best.

    makes sense.
If Andino were a superior defender, this wouldn't be an issue.
I wonder if they are going to let Andino go now.

I hope they cut Andino...he is absolutely terrible. Buck is the man...but let this project go, Buck.

I think Andino was a good enough player for a 69 win O's team, but a post season contending team needs more. he came alive during the playoffs, but he was almost a no show for 162 leading up to the post season. he's still a solid back up, but no contending team should enter into a season with him penciled in at 2B.

If Andino could have repeated his 2011 season, he would've been a reasonable guy to have at 2B. But outside of his hot start in 2012, he was terrible. Glad the team appears to going in a different direction.

Schoop might force their hand this spring. He played well in AFL.

The O's still have Flaherty who will probably hit better than this guy. Looks like he will still be in the mix this year.

when DD said the team wasn't going to heavily pursue a FA replacement for 2B, I wasn't too worried, because DD doesn't talk a big game.

also, at the trade deadline last season, I was frustrated that the O's didn't go after Chase Headley. Shortly after that, Manny comes up and the 3B problem was solved.

Perhaps DD sees Schoop as a viable alternative.

I read that Schoop played 3rd in the AFL. I wonder if he gets a shot at 3rd, Manny goes to short and JJ is traded or moved to 2nd? Regardless, of how it plays out, it’s nice to have options like that.

    agreed.

JJ to 2B doesn't seem likely. I say that because there's a pride that comes from being a SS. those guys don't willingly give up their position too easily, especially after he just earned a GG award.
