That's all I have to say.
That's all I have to say.
City 20 Poly 14
Game didn't seem to have the buzz it normally does. Must be due to poor records. Happy for City.
The game was still interesting on the field. The tailgate was bigger and better at a more spacious site this season. Hung out with '85Knight, GA, Ben Hur & Mlf1886. GolfLover made an appearance. Jeebus, '92Card and Trip, I mean First Down, were absent. Still it was a good day with the City Black Knights edging the Poly Parrots.
This is the first time that I can remember the City Poly game not having playoff implications for either team but most alumni still feel this game is bigger than the playoffs. This is their championship because they don't follow the state playoffs that closely as evidenced by the near 10K that showed up yesterday. We wouldn't get a tength of this crowd for a playoff game.
Back when the newspapers were locally controlled the game got good coverage. Back when I played there would be a half page at least of player interviews and articles in each edition starting the week before the game. The Sun bearly mentioned the game. I am asking my alumni buddies to suspend their subscription starting the week before the game. By the way, the alumni is every bit as excited. I attended their tailgate and was amazed. The younger folks really made me proud. They are truly City men and women.
I can not wait for next year.
And this is coming from the class of '60 and I know you wear it proudly. People have to be there to understand the historical significance of this game and to see that the tailgate is second to none. I enjoy talking to alumni like yourself about the "old days." To think that you actually sat there at the game and met up with one of your teammates and fellow '60 alum. That's some amazing stuff. It's up to us to continue to show up so the youngsters today see what this is all about. That's how I learned many moons ago from the many classes before me that continued to care. This is still one of the greatest high school traditions in this country and I'm proud to be a part of it.
I heard a rumor...as I often do... that the Poly fans started chanting the traditional "Harvard Jeer". Is this true?
