    That's worth the original:

In plain words, what moves them is the psychological aberration called sadism. They lust to inflict inconvenience, discomfort, and, whenever possible, disgrace upon the persons they hate — which is to say, upon everyone who is free from their barbarous theological superstitions, and is having a better time in the world than they are. They cannot stop the use of alcohol, nor even appreciably diminish it, but they can badger and annoy everyone who seeks to use it decently, and they can fill the jails with men taken for purely artificial offences, and they can get satisfaction thereby for the Puritan yearning to browbeat and injure, to torture and terrorize, to punish and humiliate all who show any sign of being happy. And all this they can do with a safe line of policemen and judges in front of them; always they can do it without personal risk.
Now if the Sun still wrote THAT way ...

    Not true.

I had taken a hiatus from smoking for several decades (while raising kids) before visiting Amsterdam a few years back. Today's marijuana sure is better than what I was smoking in the late 1960s!
    That is quite the understatement

That's right. The one that came up with fries and mayo must've been stoned.

The largest problem with legal weed will be the inability to figure out who is driving under the influence. Unless they are smoking when driving, how will the cops and courts tell?

It has always been a problem but at least the offenders could be cited for possession.

I've got to disagree with part of your post at least. I take it that you have never filmed in the red light canal area? I did once and was told (in perfect English) that If I didn't stop filming, the video camera would go into the canal, and that I would follow it a second or two later.

Amsterdam is indeed a different, lively and fun city but there are better cities in Europe that come to my mind. Prague is my favourite but to each his own as they say.

That doesn't mean it's not safe.

Prague has its crime problems as well.

It does if you don't stop filming... The guy requesting that I stop filming would have been a good stand in for King Kong. Seriously Amsterdam is not without its violence and problems.

Indeed, Prague does have its problems, it is paticularly known for its pickpockets, funny that though, because it was in Amsterdam that I caught a dipper trying my back pocket, he did a runner though when I grabbed his hand and spun around, surprising as I'm not a particularly big guy

I've never been pickpocketed, in Europe or otherwise. My friend did have 4 phones stolen from his pocket in 1 year in Prague. A lot of that probably had to do with passing out drunk in public.

A tug on my backpack once in Dam Square, frequent traveler and nothing of value was within his grasp, but I let him have it screaming at the top of my lungs, making sure everyone within a mile radius knew what he had attempted to do.

    Obstructing traffic?

Son in Law and I were pulled over for a trailer hitch issue several years ago. We had one burning. Cop asked us whether we had anything other than pot. Said no, and he made us grind it out in the street. I didn't have my pot license on me or I probably would have been able to keep it. We were allowed to go our merry way with a warning about the trailer hitch. I doubt the authorities anywhere care about users anymore. They care about the growers of course but that's as far as it goes.

I didn't go to the RLD (my wife having no interest), but I read in several places about the consequences of filming the ladies in the windows.

Haven't yet been to Prague. Maybe someday. What other cities do you like?

Put Prague at the top of your bucket list . I see Prague as a magical city in a Disneylike way, it is known as the city of 100 spires, I believe that it actually has more than that and to me it out Disneys Disney, if you can picture that.

Paris I see as a romantic city, arguably the best as it has so many famous landmarks.

A big favourite of mine is Krakow, a smaller version of Prague, fabulous architecture and steeped in history. from there you can vist Oswiecim (Auchswitz) and Brzezinka (Birkenau).

I like Athens but can't really tell you why, perhaps it's just because I like Greece and the Greek people.

Brugge is quaint and pretty, known as the Venice of the north but beware as a tourist it'll cost you just to look.

Brussels is worth a day trip but once you've seen the Grand Place (Wow!) you've seen it all.

I have to say London, far too much to list but literally something for absolutely anyone.

I hope that I haven't bored you too much.
