It's my opinion that a lot of the policies that led to the 2008 economic downturn began during the Clinton years.

Of course it would not be politically beneficial for Obama to acknowledge Clinton's role in implementing the policies that led to the mess we're in today...

Axelrod goes into more detail, discusses their philosphies, their parallels, the deficit, and the collapse caused by GW according to Axelrod.

So it is Clinton's fault or GW's fault? I'm just trying to keep up here.

Members of both parties had been in bed with the banks and mortgage lenders. The blame shouldnt be placed entirely with one person or party. But Clinton's policies contributed to the less as much as Bush's...

Then why did Obama say Romney was 4 more years of Bush? Why did he he ask Clinton to campaign with him?

Clinton is a popular ex-President and a Democrat.

Why didn't Romney ask Bush to campaign with him?

We also had the complete undoing of the firewall that had kept banks and brokerage houses separate when Clinton repealed Glass-Steagal. That led directly to the mortgage mess and the housing meltdown nine years later.
