My in-laws invited me to come see one of the family boys at Patuxent play Douglass of PG. Patuxent lost the game on a field goal with about three seconds left in the game but this had to be one of the best or most thrilling high school football games I have ever seen or it was the most entertaining game I must have seen in years. It's a darn shame that one team has to lose. They were two warriors going at it back and forth and forth and back. They traded good play after good play after good play. Patuxent had to convert several 4th and long downs to sustain drives and they succeeded. #11 Travez Lee and #9 Rafiq Douglass of Patuxent were pure beasts. Patuxent actually scored the go ahead TD and extra point with only a minute and some change on the clock. Patuxent kicked off and the Douglass returner slipped and went down on about the 10-yard line. But Douglass drove down the field using sideline plays to stop the clock. They got the ball down to about the 25-yard line with 3-seconds in the game and did something I just haven't heard from a PG County team. They attempted a field goal kick. And they made it. Final score 29 - 27. My third or fouth generation cousin and other teammates cried their eyes out but there was no shame in how competitive they were. Patuxent had nothing to be ashamed of in losing to this good Douglass team. They both played well and it was well worth the price of admission.
