Maybe Elkton could capitalize on it's past fame as a marriage destination.

My post was an overall comment, not directed at your specific post, I just jumped in there.

Gay marriage will not negatively affect me in any way. I'm an old man. The effect on society long term is a better question. Will this strenthen or weaken the 1000's years old paradigm thats clearly proven successful is something that can't be known. We'll take this up again in 100 years or so, assuming you're still posting...

personally, I don't think theres enough gay people, let alone gay people that want to get married, that would have any measurable effect either way, even on the wedding business. Of course, as with the states that go legal with pot, we might become some sort of destination, but unlike with the drugs, which you can take back home, a Maryland gay marriage is not recognized outside of Maryland.

I may be wrong and please hit me if I am, but without federal recognition, that Maryland gay marriage certificate is still lacking in many benefits a straight marriage offers.

No problem. I think my dad probably had his concerns, but he never expressed them to me or my mom (that I know of). I think that concern would have been natural though, especially in the 70s and 80s.

I spent a lot of time around both gay and straight couples my entire life and my role models are probably the same as most people's.

The biggest challenge growing up, especially as I got to middle school age, was the fear of having people find out and being harassed for it. Hopefully, that is less of a concern for kids these days.

    Pepper--

A Maryland marriage certificate issued to two people of the same sec will be valid in the other states that offer same-sex marriage as well as a few other states.

It will allow for even more illegal immigration to the United States as now gay illegals can sponsor other people, or they can pretend to be gay and sponsor their friends.

    Ken--

Yes, almost as funny as Bloomin Onion's saying New York has never had a minority governor.

    Can you say David Paterson?
