12:03PM EST November 20. 2012 - Kevin Clash has resigned as Elmo's puppeteer, little more than a week following news of a sex scandal involving the longtime Sesame Street staple.

A second man has claimed the puppeteer initiated a relationship when the man was a minor.

But today, TMZ.com claimed a second man has accused Clash of initiating a relationship 20 years ago, when the man was 15, and has now sued him for $5 million, claiming he had only recently become aware of "adverse psychological and emotional effects."

The coverage was too much for Sesame, which did not address the latest allegations in its statement.

"Sesame Workshop's mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential," the company said. "Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin's personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street."

A fourth accuser steps forward

The unidentified man charges that when he was 16 or 17 in late 1995 or early 1996, he met Clash in Miami Beach. After subsequent phone calls, Clash "lured the boy to visit him in New York, with promises to pay for his plane ticket, be a 'dad' to him in New York and give him cash and a free place to stay," according to an excerpt from the filing released by Miami-based attorney Jeff Herman. Herman also represents two of the three previous Clash accusers.

The offer appealed to the boy, "who was contemplating running away from home," according to the suit, which was filed in Miami. "These are all vulnerable boys," Herman said at a Miami press conference. "None of them had father figures in their lives and they were looking for that father figure."

Clash's attorney denies the allegations.

A whole lota extortion going on here. The age of consent is 16 in most states. And so far I havn't seen anyone claim the relationship wasn't consensual. In many states age disparity is not an issue either. However in Florida, the age of consent is, for all intents and purposes, 18.

Sheldon Stephens, the first man to claim an underage sexual relationship with Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash, filed a lawsuit against the former voice of Elmo on Tuesday.

Stephens is the fourth man to sue the Turners Station native, and in November was the first to make his allegations public.

Clash, 52, has denied all of the allegations. He has said he and Stephens had a relationship after Stephens became an adult. Stephens soon retracted his claim, calling the relationship adult and consensual.
