Du Burns wasn't even elected Mayor, so I don't think he deserves a statue. Kurt Schmoke is more deserving of a statue, IMHO, since the people actually chose him. But I think it should be erected after his death -- I disagree with statues of those who are still alive being displayed.

I'm also not a fan of the Schaefer statue. Too soon, and there are negative incidents from his years as comptroller that are still relatively fresh in people's memories. He should have ended his political career after he left the Governor's office.
    Yuca, I agree.

I'm all for putting statues and memorials up for people who deserve them but it has to be done at the right time and the decision made responsibly. If the citizens of Baltimore want the statue, put collection boxes in the convenience stores and gas stations, let the citizens donate as they wish and when the money is available put up the statue.

    I agree 1,000%.

These are times of SEVERE austerity. The City claims it doesn't have enough money for SCHOOLS, fcol! Yet they can FIND money for an inanimate object that serves no function that addresses the REAL-TIME needs of its current citizens. I'm Black, but I'm not stupid. That concrete can wait. Baltimore even found $$$ to throw away on a stupid race, smh.

I'm glad I don't live here any more. The Baltimore voters have lost their collective minds when they allow non--sense like this.

this is a sensible position. The city is in the shape it's in as a result of the "lost collective minds" of too many citizens. Some of the decisions that are made and either tacitly or overtly approved by those citizens sometimes defies understanding. The statue of a man who in reality deserves nothing other than a one day celebration of his attainment of a position that so many celebrate, pay for but requires nothing from it. How strange.
