    .

Maybe I missed it but how many times was that outrageous defense spending mentioned during the campaign?

I think we have to borrow that money in order to keep these unsuccessful wars going.

And the national debt just keeps increasing.

CIA, Other Spy Agencies Spent $54.6 Billion In Secret For 2011

ASHINGTON -- Congress appropriated a whopping $54.6 billion for classified intelligence operations in 2011, an increase over the previous two years.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper -- whose office was created after the 9/11 attacks to oversee the government's 16 intelligence agencies -- made the disclosure in a dry news release Friday. The top line number represents the aggregate amount of money lawmakers doled out for the National Intelligence Program's black budget last year.

"Any and all subsidiary information concerning the NIP budget, whether the information concerns particular intelligence agencies or particular intelligence programs, will not be disclosed," Clapper said, adding, "such disclosures could harm national security."

Congress appropriated $53.1 billion in 2010 to secret intelligence operations. That was a steep increase from 2009, when the intelligence community got $49.8 billion.

The Obama administration has requested $55 billion for civilian intelligence in the 2012 budget.

But that doesn't encompass all the spying carried out by the federal government. The Pentagon also spends billions on intelligence.

In fiscal year 2010 -- the first year the government released spending numbers -- civilian and military intelligence cost a record $80.1 billion.

Romney wanted more money for the military, Obama said they had not even asked for increases in budget.

Wait! Didn't Ba-Ba Bushie claim war in Iraq would "pay for itself?" Such a deal!

Still, comparing U.S. def. spending w/ other countries is moronic. The U.S. economic structure is completely devoted to serving the Pentagon; this is why such hue & cry when someone grumbles "defense cuts." The budget could be drastically simply by reducing def. spending overseas (eliminating regional commands).

    >>>How much is spent of social welfare programs?<<<

Defense spending IS a social welfare program: Americans either too naive, too stupid, or too ashamed to admit it.

Drop in the budget compared to defense spending. Unless you're using that tired rhetoric of medicare and ss being welfare

My post states "How much is spent on social welfare programs?"

    social welfare
    n
    1. the various social services provided by a state for the benefit of its citizens
They don't qualify? "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

Now you can answer the question as to how much is spent on social welfare programs....

Or not, as it won't fit your agenda.

Like I said, tired rhetoric. You don't get SS if you don't pay into it

As the late great Ron Smith once said, roughly quoted:

"After all, you can't have all of that stuff laying around and not use it."

Use it we have and use it we will. Almost always the only reason we use it is because we have it.

But you are still avoiding the question "How much is spent on Social Welfare programs?"

You have the definition of "social welfare" but you seem to want to avoid answering.

    As expected.

social welfare program, any of a variety of governmental programs designed to protect citizens from the economic risks and insecurities of life. The most common types of programs provide benefits to the elderly or retired, the sick or invalid, dependent survivors, mothers, the unemployed, the work-injured, and families. Methods of financing and administration and the scope of coverage and benefits vary widely among countries.
Now how much is spent by the US on social welfare programs?
