Have to disagree with you about the OPI. I played safety in college. Handfighting is fine and works both ways. A push-off as in that case is extremely hard for a defender to overcome as it throws you off stride and should be called.

But it's been happening all year. And on one play TWO STEELERS were holding a pass rusher, and nothing was called. The point is you have to call everything both ways. And it clearly was not happening in that game. And in fact, that "push off" was one of the very plays in which you could hear Chucky say something like: "I don't know about THAT call." But it's each person's view, I suppose.

There were some individual calls on Sunday that were much worse than any of the calls in the Steelers - Chiefs game.

For instance, Tom Brady heaved a ball from the 50 yard line and into the first row of seats in the end zone, and the Bills were called for pass interference on the play. The ball was literally 10 yards out of the back of the end zone. There was hand checking going on but no way was that Pats receiver catching that ball. Unless he had paid admission to sit in the seats.

You can't make this stuff up.

There is a theme when it comes to league favorites. Anyone think the Bills get that call if Fitzpatrick throws one out of the end zone? NEVER.. But Brady gets that call because he's Brady.

But on the field it is easy to see if an illegal act influences a play even if it doesn't look big. A tug on a jersey at the right time can break a play wide open.


As far as lineman holding, Harrison was getting strangled on most rushes. NFL referees do not call that no matter how much it looks like holding to fans.

The eye in the sky has a unique advantage. There are 22 large men and six officials on the field. What looks apparent to the camera may not be visible to the official on the field.

Conversely, PI is better called on the field where the official is running and can see if an act impedes the receiver or defender. He can telll if both are going for the ball.

They make mistakes but in a way it is like the airlines. When there is a crash it is big news but no one ever mentions the millions and millons of miles that were flown correctly and safely.

Ok, here is my solution. The NFL has a lot of contests. For one home game a year they should have three fans act as officials and then have them describe the experience.

Three would get to be players and three would get to be coaches.

It would be fun to observe.

We were playing so many reserves I thought they did that at M&T last Sunday. My girlfriend asked who one of them was and I said he was the first one at the stadium to mention Airtran Airways.
