Did Gallup just blame Nate Silver for ruining the art and science of polling?

You don’t have to read too far between the lines of a statement from Gallup’s editor in chief, Frank Newport, published on Friday, to get that impression.

Gallup faces a more unhappy future. If the company keeps getting the numbers wrong, the market will punish it. At that point, Gallup won’t be able to blame its sorry fate on anyone but its own incompetence.

Gallup just forgot to tighten up the polls right at the end. They were stringing the R's along for a good while though.

If it weren't for people like Silver, no one would call Gallup out for their polling inaccuracy.

It's certainly important to point out that while Gallup's Likely Voter methods need improvement, their Registered voter tally had put Obama over Romney by 3 points, which is close to the final result. So they got it half right. But it's not good enough when you're as well known as Gallup...
