Default Florida gun range lets customers shoot at each other

Combat City, a Florida gun range, has taken the concept of target practice to a whole new level. Customers can actually engage in simulated combat against other people, shooting real guns at each other.

However, as local affiliate WKMG explains, the customers aren't using live ammunition. Owner Dave Kaplan gives visitors a choice: He can modify your own gun or you can rent an airsoft gun from the store.

And in a move that may shock some, children are allowed to participate as well. "We get 'em at all ages," Kaplan said in a separate interview with Fox35, noting that one of the participants on the video was 8-years-old.

This should get the anti-gun nuts into a tizzy.

    Indeed.
I would honestly expected a few pro-gun nuts to get into a tizzy as well.

In fact, when I once improperly handled a rifle (ie, pointing it toward someone), though we all KNEW it was unloaded as it had just been cleared by my friend, he tore me a new one.

So yeah.. I expect this place to get a bit of heat.

Laser-tag is a lot cheaper, and my kids loved birthday parties at a laser-tag place when they were 8 years old. (Cap-gun battles are cheaper still. That's what I was doing at age 8.)

Best rent the airsoft gun, whatever that is. My experience with blanks is that they’ll foul up a piece so bad you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to get it clean again.

They used to issue us blanks to play war with when I was in the army. After the first time (in boot camp) most of us refused to use them and settled for yelling “BANG! BANG! BANG!” Silly. I know, but it beats the hell out of having to disassemble your trigger mechanism (lots of little springs and pins and stuff) to get the carbon crud out of it.

Simunitions are an effective training tool. As far as kids go, I fail to see a difference in this from X-box, HALO, Gears of War etc,. Except that it hurts to some degree depending on your protective equipment. This is not an inexpensive activity though. I wouldn't worry about it affecting kids to a large degree, the simulated ammunition is more expensive than corresponding live rounds. These are not blanks.

A sim round to the testicle is a really bad deal.

Look at it as an IQ test.
