Default Dad brings gun to school

    Dad arrested

The father of a student at the Academy for College and Career Exploration in Hampden was arrested in the school about 10 a.m. Wednesday after allegedly bringing a handgun to a disciplinary meeting for his son, according to Baltimore police.

Rodney Parker, 39, had taken a "hack" or unlicensed cab to the school after his son was brought into the front office for a disciplinary infraction and a parent meeting was scheduled, said Detective Vernon Davis, a police spokesman. As Parker exited the cab, he allegedly fumbled and then dropped a .22 caliber gun, which was noticed by the cab driver, Davis said. After Parker picked the gun back up and went inside the school, in the 1300 block of W. 36th Street, the driver drove away.
The driver notified police, although he drove over to Greenmount Avenue to do so.

Don't know what dad was thinking taking a gun to school. Is that why his child had a disciplinary problem?

Further proof that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Lots of people carry firearms without any bad intentions.

Why are we assuming that this man was going to commit a violent crime with the firearm?

It's a shame that the citizens of MD who are in most need of the right to a CCW are still prevented from doing the same thing that those in 37 other "shall issue" states enjoy.

yeah..lots of people do carry firearms but they dont bring them to school

Its also easy to fumble a gun.. especially when its in your pocket or tucked in your pants....cause clearly the gun was properly holstered

There is very little detail here. Not "proof" of anything.

Unless they are licensed for concealed carry they are breaking the law. That right there is a "bad intention" in my book.

Did his son bring a gun to school? I'm trying to imagine you with a personality. Do you have any proof ?

Actually where i went to school in central Pennsylvania our school had a rifle range and we had a mandatory hunter safety course that took an entire week in 6th Grade.

Early 90's , they had hunter safety when i was there but the rifle range wasn't in use then, i think they had just stopped using the range shortly after i got into 6th grade.

I know exactly the difference without having to look them up, thank you; astute readers will note that I have used those concepts in discussions here many times before.

However carrying a gun illegally is still carrying a gun illegally. And when something like this event is exposed to public attention it sharply undercuts our "law abiding citizen" arguments.

That is why I do not carry a sidearm even though I am fully competent and qualified to do so.

I've never heard those terms before. But you're right, illegal carry is still illegal carry, and while I can understand doing it in those rare certain situations (judged by 12, carried by six) if you carry it in such a way that you fumble and drop it getting out of a car, you're a complete moron that shouldn't be handling a firearm, period.

Dropping it, while being let out at a school, in such a way that others can see it happen, yet you pick it up and still go in the building tells me that you are insanely stupid and likely high or drunk.

Heres a dad thats seemingly involved in his kids eduacation, while at the same time acting as a terrible example to his young son.

Even if they're licensed I'm pretty sure a school is a no gun zone

That's what my first thought was. He was illegal regardless, not to mention dirt stupid.
