Default Howard county school board apologizes for segregation

Segregation continued years after Brown v. Board.

An African-American resident from Dayton, [Dottie] Cook said her family petitioned the Howard school board to allow her to go to a school that white students attended — a more modern school with new books — and they were told she could but only if she got permission from the bus driver to be taken there.

It was 1964 — 10 years after the U.S. Supreme Court's historic Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kan., decision outlawed segregated public schools.
    The bus driver consented.

Reading the comments on the article, some people seem rather upset about this unanimous resolution.

    What does this apology do?
    My children are my legacy.

    Cleared the air.

Yes, this is a feel-good, do-nothing resolution, but I don't see anything wrong with that.

Fool good do nothing crap is what liberals do best.

I agree that it does no real harm but is a waste of time.

This is about as useful as Carroll County's "English - The Official Language" resolution that is in the works. It's not useful but a lot of people really love symbolism.

It allows liberals, particularly white liberals, to feel good about themselves--and that's very important.

Assuage white guilt that couldn't be alleviated by voting for Obama, twice.

A lot of people have their thing. The English initiative in Carroll makes a lot of supposed conservatives feel good about themselves, and apparently that's important as well.

Wait, I thought the votes were there because they were freeloaders.

I don't have white guilt. There is no reason that I should.

How dare you, racist. It's all your fault, now go out and buy someone 40 acres and a mule.

It is only logical that you should be punished for what your race did 150 years ago and another race should benefit from what happened to their race 150 years ago, despite the fact that no one who did it, or no one who had it done to them, is still alive.

And you will be labeled a hater or a bigot if you disagree with this "logic."

    Ah yes, reparations.

The State of Maryland being a former slave state should give every black person now living in the state 40 acres and a truck (a modern version of a mule). That would mean the state would give 6,993,940 acres out of the 7,949,480 acres in the state or 87.9% of the area of the state up for reparations . The land would have to be confiscated from white landowners since their ancestors or people who looked like their ancestors owned slaves and that would only be fair. Lets say the average cost for a pickup truck is $40 K then the state would also have to come up with $69 billion to pay for one for every black person in the state.

    How does that sound?

Like passing a toothless English-only provision so you can feel good about "the Mexicans" (most of which aren't Mexican around here, but they all speak Mexican).
