I personally believe a 14-0 4A state champion (should they win it convincingly) would have a real strong argument over a 9-2 team regardless of who they played... as far as state polls are concerned..

And most of his rushing yards came after the game was wrapped up and Moeller was playing deeper coverage, allowing for Shane to run the ball. Don't get me wrong, I like him and think he is a tough kid and a good football player but GA is once again embellishing to try to make his point.

Would they have an argument, sure they would. Hell they would have an argument for being ranked #1 in the state, even over a one loss GC(why would you stop at Gilman?). Will they or should they, IMO No. And it's funny that you say this, someone who is a HUGE proponent of OOC games and OOS games. Losing to Moeller(who is looking amazing right now) and in OT to GC is a lot different than blowing out Sherwood or Suitland.

In fact, Gilman's win over Bosco is the biggest victory of any team in the state this year. That's a fact. We can debate all we want about how Bosco isn't as strong as on years past but fact remains, Gilman is the ONLY TEAM TO HAVE BEATEN THEM!

That is why I said as far as state polls are concerned which is the topic at hand... Local writers and coaches tend to look at things differently then the national guys and SOS computers... They really dont care about out of state games they are ranking state teams based on their in state performance and winning state championships.

Now as far as National polls then your right no way they(wise, westmminster etc..) get ranked in the top 100 or over GC or Gilman.. Or in other words the Bosco win means nothing to the state pollsters because Bosco isnt a Md team and no other Md team plays them.. SOS, OOC and OOS isnt really a part of in state polling so much..

Ok I see where you're coming from. I look at things differently, but I definitely understand that point of view. As I have said many times, Gilman doesn't care about the state Polls. If they did they wouldn't play the schedule they play.

I agree which is why I was confused when you were rooting for GC to lose as that would have dropped your National rank.. I think Rivals has it about right with Gilman 59 and Bosco 60 right now... Bosco can bring you up with some big games upcoming if they win.. They have St Joe Regional (turkey day classic non play-off game) and then the semi final vs Bergen the following week... we will see how they do..

I must have missed the portion of the State Semi-Final bracket on the MPSSAA website where Gilman, Good Counsel, DeMatha, CHC and Moeller are bracketed. If MPSSAA updates the website, can someone post it!

That is why I have always said that privates that can openly recruit should not be in the polls with publics. Gilman is strong because they have the best players year in and year out. That is why Bosco is strong and GC is strong. So why is it when a public (westminster) destroys another public (sherwood) it has to be that sherwood is terrible but when a private (moeller) destroys another private (gilman) it is never an issue? Does that mean that Gilman is terrible?

In theory, Westminster and Sherwood are on equal footing because they are both in the 4A playoffs and Moeller and Gilman are are on equal footing because they are both ranked nationally. But you said that equal teams like Gilman getting blown out by Moeller is nothing like equal teams Westminster blowing out Sherwood?

    Why is that???

Gilman lost to Moeller by 21 and was down by only 14 late in the 3rd/early 4th. Sherwood lost to Westminster by like 40 and was down 21 in the first quarter. Kind of a different thing. And losing to Moeller, who very well could be the best team in the state of Ohio which looks like its the top state in the Country this year, is a lot different than getting stomped by Westminster.

Gilman isn't one to make excuses but your theory is pretty off. First off Sherwood and Westminster are 4A, so that means that they are about the same size. Moeller is about twice the size of Gilman! Now none of this really matters because Gilman has itself to blame for the way they lost.

Someone will. He'll be on a roster somewhere next year, I think he could become a starting quality kid at a program like Catholic in a few years. D3 schools are always able to take a few more risks without having to worry about scholarship limitations and things like that. It's also good press for your football program to have a kid with a major state record like single-season TD passes in his bio.

In a school like Gilman it really does not matter because you have the resources to bring in the best players. Gilman is not like a public school where the school gets what they get from the neighborhood and hope that they may get a transfer. Gilman goes after kids that are in the 6th grade and follows and coddles them until they go to Gilman. So dont tell me that poor Gilman only has a certain number of kids. Yes they may have low enrollment numbers but the kids for football that they have are there for football. The kids that they have for soccer are there for soccer and so on. When you recruit the best you should play the best. Westminster played the best at that time which was Sherwood which is similar in size. Westminster and Sherwood play with what they get for the most part, not with who they recruit from 6th grade.

This all sounds good if it were true but it isn't. First off, Gilman the school recruits itself! The academics and the football program speaks for itself. Secondly, for every kid you hear about that Gilman "recruited" there are 5 that have been at the school since elementary school. Gilman DEVELOPS more players than they "recruit!"

And stop talking like Gilman just hand picks players, they don't! Many players just can't get into the school. You also have plenty of other schools, like GC, DeMatha, CHC, St. John's, McD, MSJ, etc. all fighting for a select few kids. Moeller is not only twice as large as Gilman but they also recruit and play I. A much better football state!

That being said, Gilman still should have had a better performance against Moeller. But as we see now. Moeller is one of the best teams in the country. They have beat two CONSENSUS NATIONAL Top 10 teams in the last few weeks. They are playing like a Top 5 team Nationally right now and losing to them is definitely nothing to be ashamed of right now.

So you are saying that Gilman does not hand pick some of their players? I dont care if you hand pick only 3 or 4. If you put those 3 or 4 handpicked players on a public school team that would be the difference of putting them over the top. Since you have a team of all stars those handpicked players are just any other player.

So you are also saying that many kids are at Gilman start at the lower school and I do not dispute this, but I do dispute that Gilman has the best students that just happen to be the best players in the area from a young age.

I'm by no means disputing your claim of those 3 or 4 players taking a public over the top. But those three or four wouldn't be at the same school, since Gilman gets kids from all over the place. But yes, those elite kids would help their neighborhood school.

Yes I'm saying that Gilman develops players. I believe they are the best team in the state at developing players. Many at a very very young age. All state sort of players like Darius Jennings, Hank Poggi, Miles Norris, Micah Kiser, Matt Tilley, Ned Emala, etc were all at the school many years before they became standouts on the football field. Players like Tilley and Kiser with younger non football stud brothers at the school. There's a lot of misinformation when it comes to Gilman's program.

I was using 3-4 players as an example but I am sure they recruit many more. I am sure you know the exact number. But like you said, with having the so-called best develpmental program in the state and the ability to hand pick kids, then you should not be in the same talk as publics. Gilman has a huge advantage not only over publics but over other privates that dont put such an emphasis on athletics. That is all I am saying. You say a team like Sherwood is terrible. You only say that because compared to Gilman they may be terrible, but Sherwood is a traditonal public power along with Suitland. I just dont like the bad-mouthing of reputable public school programs and other privates that dont go above and beyond to be a football power. You never say anything about Dunbar, but they would not beat Sherwood consistently and would get smoked by Westminster but yet you have a love affair with them.

We are actually not disagreeing. I don't think Gilman(or GC and Dm) should be compared to the publics. It's not me who is doing the comparison. It's other that are. I'm not bad mouthing other schools, it's only when others try to compare those schools to Gilman. Sherwood is a very good PUBLIC school program. Westminster is having an amazing season and starting a good PUBLIC school program.

In years past, the great Public school programs could play with and beat the top privates. Not now. It's a different game now. Too much money in high school football. And I'm talking about TV and sponsored out of state, out of conference games. The Internet and sites like Rivals has made the game different. So the schools that are playing by these rules are benefitting. The publics are handcuffed by the state and their respective counties.

At the Gilman-CHC game this weekend, I had the fortune of talking with a very engaging 9 year old who apparently is pretty good right now at football. He was a CHC fan because Donald Davis spoke at one of his kids camps and now he wants to go to CHC. I was messing with him about coming to Gilman and playing for a winner. But he's dead set on CHC, his mother on the other hand told him that when the time is right and if Gilman gives him money, he will be at Gilman. This is just an example of how informed parents and even younger kids are these days.

I thought Kiser played youth ball for Catonsville Stars?

He did but he was at Gilman. Norris won a National Championship with Aquille Carr in youth basketball. Jennings played at Gardenville. Tilley played youth ball somewhere as well. I think the only kids that didn't play youth ball was Poggi and Emala.

Are they informed on who is giving money or the school? To me I don't think it has much to do with the school as much as the $. For instance I talked with a father about his son and the first words out of his mouth was how much you gonna give me. Nothing about the school itself just how much money are you giving me. He then went on to name Gilman and GC is talking about giving him basically a free ride. I ran into him a week later when I was talking to a group parents and ignored him. He didn't like this to much and went to say out loud, CHC had me on their sidelines, Gilman had me at their game, GC came out four times and had me at their game. Don't get me wrong I think a majority go to schools because of the school, family ties, coaches, or location. But you be kidding yourself it the cream doesn't follow the $.
