I understand the reasoning, but I will cancel my TC membership if this happens. I hate, hate, hate the idea of this.

You would think the idea of no more Dook or UNC Bball games would be enough to jettison this idea, but I see the AD and President have no ACC ties. I don't like this idea; I don't find the idea of games aganst the Big 10 schools as attractive as the status quo.

And they will get games against Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue.

Huge opportunity for Maryland to up their profile!

This will give the Terps a chance to be relevant in football. ACC football is stale.

Has the ACC ever even won a BCS game????

Maryland has to do something. They sunk a ton of money in the stadium and no one goes even when they are decent. They have to do something...this is it! Don't blow it!

$50 mil exit fee to leave the ACC.

That could put a damper on the idea.

Maryland is a basketball school 1st and that's where the tradition is. Unfortunately football is where the real money is... College football will never be #1 in CP or the DC/Baltimore area. It's really an uphill battle no matter what conference they are in.

I think Maryland has a very good chance to remain a doormat in ACC football for years to come, never mind the B10. The ACC's complete ineptitude in getting a decent TV deal though is pretty lame. It is inexcusable how many MD games over the years have gotten no further than streaming video at best. Don't really know which way to lean. Losing ACC basketball would bother me, but current conference realignment is already turning the Terps in to pseudo Big East team... and I've never liked Big East basketball in the slightest. On the other side filling your own stadium with opposing fans just to fill your stadium strikes me as a pathetic way to sell tickets, when fielding your own competitive teams and embracing your neighboring market could probably accomplish the same thing...

I know Maryland fans fancy themselves a basketball school first, but there really isn't that much tradition.

They probably spend more time out of the top 25 than in it.

Terps can fight for 3rd banana in the Big 10 just like they do in the ACC.

$24 mil last year to every member of the BiG (except Nebraska, who is new).

Bet $24 mil would have gone a long way in helping to support those 7 sports Maryland had to cut due to budget woes?

Anyway, I doubt this will happen. I can just hear all the angry alumni now, with calls into the Pres and trustees.

As a BiG fan, I am intrigued by all this, but not sold on Md joining, and certainly won't be upset when the negotiations fall apart. Delaney is thinking TV revenues, and expanding his market into the midatlantic. But as a football fan, adding Md will do nothing to enhance the BiG reputation (vis a vi, the SEC) in football.

Maryland is a basketball school with a very rich tradition. Great players and teams over the years.

I can't believe Maryland would exchange the east coast for the midwest. The east coast media markets offer greater potential.

The move may bring in greater revenue, but I'm sure it'll also create greater disinterest among students/alumni/supporters.

I sure as heck have no intentions of going to Iowa City, East Lansing, Chicago in the middle of winter.

There are lots of things I would eliminate from campuses that do not generate any money. But Lacrosse is our state sport.

Yep and UofM joining the Big means lacrosse will die in the state

    Key word, "potential"

How's that worked out so far for the Terps? Bet there's more east cost media interest in PSU than Maryland.

Really? In football? You'd rather see UNC or Dook football, than say Nebraska, OSU, PSU or Michigan? I hope you're kidding.

The money is in football, not basketball.

I sure as heck have no intentions of going to Iowa City, East Lansing, Chicago in the middle of winter.
Middle of Winter? What conference do you follow?

Who from Md goes to see the Terps play BC....in "the middle of Winter"?

Personally, i'd rather watch a football game at the Big House, than a game in Florida in the heat of late Summer. Oh, and one can drive to Ann Arbor in 8-9 hrs. Good luck driving to FSU, GT or Miami in that time. Last time I drove to Atlanta, it was 13 hours. Oh, and students drive, not fly.

Whatever ken. The ACC is a better Lax conference and we get better recruits.
And Syracuse coming would have been a big deal. Now we go into a backwater off brand league. My guess is that you don't even care one way or the other and are just trolling.

I did not graduate from UofMD and certainly did not play sports in the ACC but I have boughs lots of tickets and logo gear. And I have spent far too much time watching games on TV. If this happens (when) I may reconsider my entertainment options.
UofMD's football problems stem from their crappy TV contract. Their games are not on TV.

Slappy you are not a Maryland fan. Your opinion is not really important.

    Pretty funny, ain't it.

While newbies to the sport, when OSU, MICHIGAN AND PENN STATE get their lax programs rolling....watch out.

Right now lax is still a niche sport in the BiG, but that is changing. Lax is now a public school sport in many school districts in Chicago. Time.

And moving to a better conference won't change any of it.
