How long as lacrosse been the State sport? 4 weeks?
Conferences in lacrosse mean nothing. They added AQ bids about the same time lacrosse became the state sport.
This is a great opportunity to separate themselves from the stink of the Duke program and the lawless thuggery of the UVA program.
Is UNC even relevant outside of the week players commit? Talk about looks like Tarzan plays like Jane...that's UNC.
I just read an article where Gary Williams came out in support of the move. Not surprising, given his disdain for the NC bias.
Still not changing my mind though.
Mich matches with UVA.
Northwest matches with Dook.
But it's not just educational. It's also about values and background. Most big schools have a more conservative student body, with lower incomes than many of the ACC schools...the exception might be VaTech, who, IMO, is more big ten like, than ACC like.
For what it's worth, I see many Md students driving their beemers or Range Rovers around campus. Different socio-economic demographics between places like md or UVA and most BiG schools. Look at where most Md students come from - the richest suburbs in America. As an example, my oldest son's Freshman roommate (and best friend) at Purdue, was a civil engineering student who grew up on a farm. He just didn't grow up there, but worked there when not at Purdue. Just a great, great kid with grounded values. He now flies black hawk helicopters for the army over in the middle east. I've been teaching at md for about 15 years, And have never met a single student at md like this. Not one.
If it makes you feel any better, if I was Delaney, my vote would be for VaTech. IMO, their blue collar, lunch pail mentality is a better fit with the BiG.

I spent a year at Penn State. I was working there for a year after graduating from college. I played on some club teams and hung out on campus. I had a good time and met some really good people. But nothing out of the ordinary. There was no shortage of frat boys and jerks.
Growing up in Catonsville I know plenty of great people that graduated from UMCP. Believe it or not known of them had BMW's or rangerovers at the time. My school did not have a decent library so I used McKeldin a lot during my Jr and Sr years, often visiting friends at the same time. My club sports team played Maryland (and Duke, UNC, UVA) amazingly I was never run over by any Rolls Royce driving undergrads.
Slappy, You should really consider working somewhere else if you hate the kids that much. I am sure everyone would be happier.
Your statement, "I'm sure some of them are fine...." epitomizes the ignorance, if not arrogance, many around here have for big ten schools.
What a stupid post.
So the students and players are responsible for what happened at PSU?
Thuggery at OSU? By students? Oh, you mean the players. Ok, then let's not forget Len Bias, and the drug culture that was UMD at the time. But if you want to talk dirt about the students, then you will lose that discussion - big time. Do you want to try? Did you know we had two recent racial events on campus, where a noose was strung up on a tree near a black frat? Do I blame the students (as a whole) like you seem to do with the PSU scandal? Get real.
Sure they can. Plenty of ways to afford.
As per my son's roommate at Purdue, he joined the ROTC to get free tuition.
Another approach is the back door approach: guaranteed admission into UMCP if an instate student who attended a certified community college, and graduates with 3.0. Enter as a Junior, guaranteed.
Sure, And miss out on the four year dorm experience.
And not everyone is a fit for military. I can afford it for my family. They will have their choice. But for many kids Mom and Dad can't swing $20K plus a year.
