Hope this works out like this with Comcast.

Q--Will I have to pay more for the Big Ten Network?

A-- The cost of the Big Ten Network will be included in the fees that subscribers pay for their basic level of cable or satellite service, or in the case of DIRECTV, the Total Choice package.

Well, it sounds like there was more than one dissention, but either way, I'm not super-surprised it passed.

I was pissed at Loh and Anderson, but I have since moved that rage at Yow. It's her mismanagement that forced the university's hand.

As an aside, what some of you may enjoy about the BTN, which you won't see on opther networks - The BTN does a lot of programming to cover other sports, as well as in depth discussions with the coaches, etc. There's a lot more behind the scenes stuff on the BTN. Yes, it's filler, but I think it makes for a more informed viewer.

It always does...ACC sold out it's tradition (of mediocraty ) when it raided the Big East (twice).

On to Bigger and better things!

I don't get it with my current basic Comcast subscription..... maybe they'll add it on by 2014.

I think with Fios it requires the "sports" package that includes the regional sports networks (MASN, etc.)

Who should I blame for the university Athletics department being in debt?

Oh and BTW, And I was a major supporter of Yow while others bashed her. It seems that I was wrong...

Not on mine, it doesn't. At least they didn't require it when I got the BTN several years ago. FiOs was one of the first to get the BTN.

Also enjoy the series on the Big Ten Icons:

...programs like this will be developed on Maryland icons and athletic programs. Only seen on the BTN.

    How so?

The Wash Post reported in July 2011 that UMD's athletic dept was carrying a debt that exceeded $83 million and that most of it was from Byrd stadium expansion and Comcast Center construction.

IIRC, Byrd stadium expansion was started before Debbie Yow's arrival to UMD.

And the Comcast Center was opened a decade ago. Even though Gary fielded some pretty bad teams in the last few years, I think his team still generated positive revenue.

Byrd has been expanded multiple times, and they were when Yow was here. The last was the Tyser Tower upgrade to add luxury boxes that no one wanted.

    Wow!!!

I assumed the suites were there when the Tower was initially constructed.

MD's a blue welfare state, with an anti-business attitude, relative to Virginia. It shouldn't take a study to conclude that there very little interest in luxury suites.

Not to mention, you are competing with the Ravens, & Redskins for football suites (add in the O's, Nats, Wizards, Caps for other sports) - If I had my pick, I know which one(s) I WOULDN'T choose.

Genaeral Assembly needs to slash the budget since they can afford an exit fee of $50 million after crying poor and cutting 7 sports. Better yet Under Armour should pay it since I am sure this was their brain child!

Have you made a decision ? All you need is a pink shirt, khaki's and an f-250 to haul "brush" once a decade and you can fancy youself a UVa. gentleman.

    1. It looks like the exit fee won't be $50 mil.
    2. There is rumor that Plank will pony up the cash to pay the exit fee (only a rumor though)
    3. This will be a financial windfall for the Terps

A student of mine said the CEO of UA cashed in about $60 mil in stock...not too much before this event. Rumor? Truth? Coincidence?

Regardless, ESPN reported that Plank was 100% behind this move.
