Default Martin O'Malley opposed to medical marijuana

I know people who have suffered and died. They should've be allowed to smoke to reduce their pain.

O'Malley doesn't want to take a stand against the Federal Government. What a profile in courage!

"JUICE #3: O'MALLEY VS. CUOMO ON MARIJUANA - Democratic and Republican politicos around the nation have been re-thinking marijuana policy after two states approved legalized use at the ballot this year. But prior to the election, 2016 White House rivals Martin O'Malley and NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo had staked out differing positions on the issue. O'Malley has threatened to veto even simply medical marijuana in Maryland -- even while it is an uncontroversial issue among voters, who support prescription-use in overwhelming numbers. Last March O'Malley's team told The Baltimore Sun they would likely veto any medical marijuana bills, due to fear of the Feds. Meanwhile, other states (and their voters) are proceeding boldly."

If he thought it would curry favor to his heroes on Capitol Hill he would be for it.

He's on the wrong side of history and the electorate. Does he think the Feds will put him in jail for legalizing Medical Marijuana? Nevermind President or any of Hillary's lists for VP. They probably won't even let him take the White House tour. This is just a political tragedy in the making. I once had such high hopes for him.

If O'malley wants to cling to 1980's Conservative Drug Policy. I hear that Karl Rove is not only available but he's also in a very desperate position. So O'Malley could probably get him as a campaign manager really cheap.

If he want's to move Maryland forward into a reasonable and rational drug policy. Then here's something he needs to think about. States Rights is not exclusively right wing territory. We need to join that growing union of Medical Marijuana States.

Default O'Malley's war on cancer patients.

Following Martin O'Malley's logic an elderly woman stricken with cancer who smokes for pain relief is a criminal. I am not surprised. What do you expect from a person that as mayor had his police arrest about 100,000 mostly black men and then not charge them!

Suffering cancer patients should be extended mercy. Governor O'Malley should re-read the beatitudes that he occasionally likes to mention.

    Matthew 5:7
    Blessed are the merciful,
    for they shall obtain mercy.

What do you expect? He has no set principles other than to get elected. Whatever position will help him politically he is in favor of. A real profile in courage he is not.

For almost 100 years now we have resisted and endured the very best and even treacherous combined efforts of the federal, state and local governments against us. The only thing that remains to be seen is if the Governor will seize this very unique opportunity to have us cease fighting against the state and start fighting FOR the state. Together we can do this and make it work.

O'Malley was against gambling too. Once the Marijuana lobby directs some money his way, I'm sure he'll see the light. Plus, think of the potential tax revenue!

While Mr. O’Malley is obviously a loathsome, disgraceful and despicable human being, he appears to be right on this one. It’s a pretty simple concept. Marijuana will still be illegal in all fifty states regardless of anything the State of Maryland chooses to do. If the dopers could stay sober long enough to rub a few of their remaining brain cells together then they should be able to figure that out as well. Watching their fellow dopers out west getting it rammed up their rear ends on a daily basis by the DEA, DOJ, IRS, and ATFE apparently hasn’t had much of an effect on them. Get it off schedule first and then the States can do as they please.

Absolutely. It is none of the government's business.

If only there were a "marijuana lobby" to kick some $$$ into the Governor's campaign (like the casinos did) he'd be falling all over himself saying "It's for the schools!"

Your churlish words are unable to disguise a narrow perspective that will surely prove wrong. I'd bet that the Obama administration will back away from the police-state policies you seem to like.

The ballot measure that legalized it in Washington State specified there would be a 75% tax on legal weed. If that works out then there'll soon be plenty of $$$ in marijuana legalization.

O'Malley would be completely pro-medical MJ if he thought it was politically expedient.

I should save this because I actually agree with you.

I just hope that the Maryland Democratic Party powers don't anoint him as the next Senator when Mikulski retires.

He does have a point. Legalized weed in Colorado is one thing, but next door to the Capital - well it makes it hard for the Feds to ignore it. In fact, if they DIDN'T do anything about it, then it would look very, very bad on the Feds.

I don't like that O'Malley doesn't have the balls to move forward, but I think he does have a point.

One would almost think you were trying to say MO'M is an opportunist.
