On Mike and Mike this morning Golic destroyed the guy from the NFL and said the bottom line is now the db will take out the knees and legs. Now you will see a lot of ACL's blown etc. He also brought up the fact the NFL on pregame show Ronnie Lotts hit as a ad. What a joke but the real deal is that the NFL now will have to suspend about 5 players every week. You watch these guys will be going low now.

As I said, they are not particularly appealing, and they cost about 4 times as much as current ones. The hypocrisy is saying player safety is number 1 but refusing to accept changes to the equipment because of league image and cost.
Oh, okay. The league lies left and right. The ONLY thing it's interested in is making money and securing its monopoly on the sport.

By the way Golic brought up the fact the receiver changes hjis level causing the hit. That in reality it was a good hit but because the receiver dropped the hit became illegal but more important Ed Reed was called for launching and all the people Golic etc all said Reed did not launch.

My question is why wait til crunch time for this suspension. The guy Clark gets two calls in a game and only gets fined on one. Talk about hitting the Ravens at the right time? Harrison is notorious for his hits but the real deal is it was a policy to base the hits on a one time occurance and now they go back 3 years. How many LB and DB's will be suspended. If Reed loses his hearing he should look at all the games this week and look at the fines. If a guy like Harrison gets a penalty for this and doesn't get suspended he should sue the NFL for $500,000 and more. The Ravens should also sue.

Harrison's hit were no different than any of these others. He got hit hard because of his comments afterwards.

Massaquoi lowered his head before the hit and Cribbs was a running back.

So how did Pitta end up with a concussion? Someone hit him in the head. How can a player get a concussion and the players who concussed him are not fined/suspended but another player gets hit in the head, no concussion and the player who hit him gets suspended?

Not sure which play caused the injury, but often times the ground causes the concussion if a player is driven into the ground and his head snaps back and hits the ground. Sometimes there's a knee to the head. It all depends. But not all concussions are helmet to helmet.

LOL...sort of like the balance between winner and whiner huh. reed is becoming a real Hines Ward.

The other problem is, the application of the 'Safety Rules'. Can't hit the QB in the head or knees, can't hit a 'defensless' receiver. There are no rules (as far as I've seen) to stop one from hitting a runner in the head, i.e. McGahee in Pitsburgh. A 'defenseless' receiver hitting a DB in the head? How about rules to protect linemen's knees?

It's only the flashy positions the NFL wants to protect, it seems.

"In a letter to Reed, Cottrell said, “I have determined that your actions were egregious and warrant significant discipline. However, I do not believe that your actions were so egregious as to subject you to a one-game suspension without pay."

    Whatever THAT means.

It's usually more about perception of the hit when it happens live. Defenders make helmet to helmet contact ALL the time. When you have that moment where the WR in the open field and you can see the defender closing, and it all gets there at the same time, it's going to stand out more than when a guy catches a short pass in traffic. Sometimes they'll fine a guy after the fact even if no flag was thrown... but that's typically only when something obvious and blatant happened, and the broadcast team calls attention to it.

Pitta's concussion happened on the Ravens first series, a 3rd and 7 pass he "caught" for a 5 yard gain. Clark hit him in the back, and Timmons came across underneath and hit him in the head at the same time. The ball actually popped out right after he hit the ground, but the ref gave it to him. Could have easily been ruled not completing the catch I think. Anyway, it didn't look as notable live because Pitta was low to the ground, and he got hit from two directions at the same time. But Timmons made helmet-first contact with him... you can see it on Game Rewind if you freeze it at the right frames. His head clearly snaps down in conjunction with Timmons coming across and hitting him high, helmet first.

Timmons won't get a fine because 1) there was no penalty thrown live, and 2) it didn't happen "in space". The league won't bother frame-stepping through every hit, because they realize that they'd be fining / suspending dozens of players every week.
