Default Straight outta Dena: pitbull attacks neighbor

We can't legislate our way out of certain breeds. It is impossible for police and animal control to arrest every dirtbag and seize every dangerous animal. It is up to society to decide that it is not socially acceptable to have a pit bull?
If a neighbor has one: call zoning for every tiny infraction. Call the police for every argument. Call the landlord or HUD for every parking problem or any anything. Make their lives hell. Don't let your kids play there. Don't socialize with them. No Christmas cards or help shoveling the driveway or lending tools.

Preliminary evidence indicated the woman was standing at the fence in her backyard when her next-door neighbor's dog allegedly jumped up on the other side of the fence, so its front paws were on the top of the fence, and bit her, Thompson said."The dog bit her on her upper arm and did pretty significant damage," Thompson said.

The woman's wounds were considered non-life-threatening, but because of their severity, she was transported to the Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Thompson said. The center is renowned for its work repairing damaged extremities.
I understand that there are plenty of nice calm pitbulls and some aggressive terriers or retrievers. But when a pitbull is dangerous it is much more dangerous. To put it simply: the reward of your pet ownership experience is just not worth the risk to your familiy and neighbors. Ownership of a pitbull or other large aggressive breed is a clear indication of antisocial behavior and plain selfishness.

Hopefully this ladys lawyer can use the fact that the state has declared those dogs inherently dangerous to help win a big lawsuit against the owner.
We need these pitbull owners to start losing their homes when their inherently dangerous dogs attack people.

que the morons who will blame the owner and not the dog in 3...2...1
If this dogs owner was Jesus himself it still would have torn into that elderly lady, it's what they were bred to do

In that neighborhood, the dog is probably the owners most valuable possession. Good luck suing/collecting.

    You're right
We should require owners of pit bulls to buy insurance, if their dog bites someone and they don't have insurance they should go to jail

Default Next you're going to want to ban guns!

Since some guns have been used to do bad things would you like to ban all guns?

The neighbor should be prosecuted. If they are receiving a HUD subsidy or living in government housing they should be evicted. A dog that is aggressive to people should be put down. ANY DOG, NOT JUST CERTAIN BREEDS!

    Breed specific legislation doesn't work.

I agree. In fact that was the first line in the thread.
But insurance companies will soon take care of that. Now that the whole world understands which types of dogs are dangerous it is clear that any homeowner that ownes one or rents to a person with one does so with full understanding of the risks and assumes full liability.

At this point t think all pet owners should carry insurance. Let the market choose the price based in risk.

Failure to carry equals death for pet and jail for owner.

i agree, but i'd hate to let the underwriting market (for lack of better term?) determine breed popularity.
