Default Thanks O'Malley....Maryland will be #2 in taxes as a % of income

Let's give a shout out to our Governor, Senate President and Speaker and their loyal minions for leading our state off the fiscal cliff with their out of controlled spending. We are # 2 but rest assured they will they will try harder to see that we are the highest taxes population in the land.

Casinos get tax breaks, taxpayers get more taxes and illegals get in state tuition.......when was the last time you heard someone refer to our state as "The land of pleasant living"?......if Annapolis keeps taxing us, we will be the "land of peasant living".

"In its study of how the fiscal cliff would affect typical families in each state, the Tax Foundation reports that if the numerous tax provisions that are due to expire on Dec. 31 are not changed, a four-person family in New Jersey with a median income of $101,682 will see its taxes go up at a rate 6.82 percent of its income, which translates into about $6,933.

The tax issues in question are the expiration of the Bush tax rates, which also include the elimination of the 10 percent tax bracket and the reduced deduction for married filers; ending the 2 percent cut to employee-side Social Security taxes; and the Alternative Minimum Tax.

Maryland was ranked second by the Tax Foundation because a four-person family there, with a median income of $106,707, would see its taxes go up 6.74 percent as a percentage of income, or about $7,194."

So musicmd how hypocritical you are. I'm sure during the Iraq war when people said America love it or leave it you probably said things like how dissent is patriotic and that if you love your country or state you would criticize it. Now your answer for anyone who is against illegals getting a free ride, or anyone poinitng out our high taxes in Maryland, is for them to move. So very tolerant you liberals are.

We can definitely learn from the states to our south. Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee all have lower income taxes, lower gasoline taxes and very low or no tolls on their highways yet everything runs just as smoothly if not more so there. Companies are investing in these places, the roads are not falling apart (like the MTA would have you believe if the toll increases weren't passed). Maybe cause they don't have all these liberal social programs and freebees like illegal alien in-state tuition or Medicaid as generous as ours. These states all have much lower crime than we do. Yes, some individual cities in these states do have lots of crime but on the local level New Orleans, Memphis, Baton Rouge, and Richmond are all run by Democrats and have Democrat judges much like Baltimore City.

And speaking of taxes......I was travelling today for Thanksgiving. I filled up for gas in Virginia, and stocked up on alcohol and cigarettes in Virginia too, since the gas tax, alcohol tax, and cigarette tax are all lower in Virginia, and these things are all cheaper in Virginia compared to both Maryland and West Virginia.

The old "Love it or leave it" phrase. It is dumb no matter which side uses it.

Surely you can muster a more constructive comment. Yes? Try.

How exactly is O'Malley responsible for an increase in federal taxes and substantial U.S. gov't spending cuts? That's the result of a failure of Congress to compromise.

All states are subject to the same increases in federal taxes......Maryland, however, is #2 when Federal and state tax levels are combined......indicating Maryland is the 2nd highest taxed state in the Nation.

Why should anyone be surprised? The story is from CNS and the Tax Foundation claims to be nonpartisan even though its board of directors includes such luminaries as John McCain's chief economic adviser to his unsuccessful presidential campaign and the senior economic advisor to Bush~Cheney and former~President Bush's senior economic advisor for tax policy.

Just try reading the Tax Foundation's own information.

Can you provide a source for that? Taxes in MD are above average, but I don't believe we are #2 for combined federal and state taxes -- there are several states I can think of that are higher.

But in any case, the article you linked to is only looking at federal taxes. The reason MD would have the 2nd highest increase in taxes due to the fiscal cliff is because it's a high-income state, and many more residents would be hit with the AMT.

Someone had to be #2, just like someone is #1 and someone #50. Big deal

If you could find a way to properly harness these left turns you could probably write pretty good intentional comedy.

It's amazing to me that with all the benefits from being a hub for the Federal Government, this state still has such high taxes. And don't bother telling me to move. I'm a citizen of this country and have every right to complain about issues impacting me. So stow it.

I don't know anyone in any state that doesn't think they're overtaxed regardless of where their state ranks.
