I agree with that sentiment, BUT its clear to me after this past election that a clear majority of the people that bother to get out and actually vote think the State's leadership is doing just fine by them. Heck, they even like the obscene gerrymandering.
The Republican party is pretty much a non-factor in the state, the primaries are the de-facto general elections with dems just rying to out dem one another.
If one is consumed by politics and taxes and such, moving would seem to worth looking into, that or stocking up on blood-pressure pills, 'cause I don't think its going to change anytimew soon.
Or, maybe we should all register as Dems so we can actually have a vote that counts. That's what I'm considering.
Doesn't matter. Marylanders make more than anyone else in the country. I am thankful that I make enough money that my tax bill has zero impact on my happiness. Part of that has to do with the fact that this area is quite fertile for jobs. I'm thankful for that, and therefore do not care that I'm paying a higher percentage of taxes than elsewhere. I mean, it could be worse... I could be living in West Virginia.
I'm sorry that such a simple idea went completely over your head.
A lot of the liberal initiatives passsing was because of the liberal media bias and misinformation and from the election people too. Most people do not know about the map and the way the question was worded was misleading.....all it says is that we approve setting congresssional boundaries per the Constitution. They should have shown the gerrymandered map so that voters would be more educated.
And the media also misleads the voters about saying the illegal alien Dream Act requires that the parents pay taxes. It doesn't. It just says they have to FILE taxes, they can easily file a tax return, claim zero income and actually get money back!!! I'm sure a lot of illegals file tax returns saying no income using fake names to get money from the government. The illegals steal from this country every chance they get! This fact should be evident to all.
You see this is the problem. That map was available for people who really cared about the issue. It was linked here for example. Informed voters don't need everything handed to them, they'll seek out such things to make an educated choice. Lazy voters won't and that has nothing to do with the media, that's a personal choice
Hate to break it to you, but a very large proportion of our most skilled workers are dependent on tax-payer money via government contracts: positions like engineers, scientists, IT professionals, etc. And then all of the positions that support those lines of business (skilled and unskilled) - accountants, surveyors, planners, HR, janitorial staff, etc.
While I can fault the government for being wasteful of money, I can't fault people who work for the government (directly or as contractors)... let that system dry up and you can kiss our economy bye-bye - forever.
The CITIZENS of Maryland make good money which is where Maryland gets all of its money through taxes. Then once they tax our money they misuse it and waste it though bad programs and redistribution. The money that was meant to go to roads and highways was stolen and used to pay for other programs. Then Owemalley comes out and explains to US THE CITIZENS that WE are going to have to make up the difference by raising tolls. How can anyone support this type of leadership?
Truth. Blame the special interest groups who decided that this issue was not worth spending millions on ads, and instead spent it to try and stop gambling and same-sex marriage.
Perhaps if they spent that money to alert voters to the insane gerrymandering on the ballot, it would have been stopped.
