Default Los Angeles Woman, Suffers Cardiac Arrest After Being Shocked With Taser By Police

Attempting to get back in the vehicle (bad idea). Getting shocked 3 times in the chest (not good). Getting shocked 3 times and the officer yelling don't move? (WTH)

"Angela Jones, a Los Angeles woman, suffered cardiac arrest after being shocked with a Taser gun by police during a traffic stop in June. The incident, which was caught on video by a California Highway Patrol dashboard camera, has once again raised questions about the safety of the weapon."

"I just don't feel like I want you to take my purse from me," Jones says in the video. As she attempts to get back in her vehicle, an officer draws his Taser X26 and shocks Jones in the chest three times."

Total stab in the dark here.

But was Ms. Jones overweight at all ? I'm sensing a lot.

Those types are severely more prone to cardiac arrest, ya know...

the way she was holding that purse you'd of thought she was protecting a child. I really don't see what the officers did wrong. It could have been a concealed weapon without a permit. In Massachusetts that is automatic jail time.

Running from police like that was idiotic. I am sure everyone is sorry she is dead but I can't really see what the police did wrong.

She did not die, she was resuscitated at the scene.

What did she get stopped for? Did she ultimately get charged for anything? She shouldn't of had to go through that.......

Apparently she did not see the Chris, Rock video on what to do or not do when pulled over by the police.

Jones was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, according to ABC Los Angeles. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7.

As seen in video obtained by CBS Los Angeles, police approach Jones' car after they discover it illegally parked on an Encino, Calif., road. The officers conduct a field sobriety test on Jones and question her for about 15 minutes.

Is illegal parking sufficient grounds for a search of the purse?

L.A. taxpayers will wind up paying for this (again). I'd be surprised if the award is less than $10M.

For your own safety, always comply with police requests/orders - even if you don't believe they have grounds for their actions.

I hope this woman's recovery is complete with no permanent physical damage.

She was a mega dumb *** for trying to get into her car. The consequences were of her own making.

It wasn't her refusal to let them see her purse that got her tasered. And asking to see it is not an illegal search.

I never said it was an illegal search. Most searches are done with consent - even if the person didn't understand that he/she consented.

If you have nothing to hide, its always best to allow searches. I was boarded a month ago by the Coast Guard for the first time in 40 years on the water. They asked for my consent in careful wording designed to suggest that it was an order. I understood that I could have refused, but having nothing to hide, I allowed them to board and both search my vessel and conduct a safety check. I'm the squeakiest of clean (haven't ever had so much as a single beer on the boat) so had the number and types of PFDs and even the expiration dates of the marine flares were current.

Yes, going back into the car was her big mistake. It will be up to a jury to decide if that mistake excuses or justifies shocking three times to the chest and the amount of damages. People panic and do stupid things. I think she panicked but the officer may also have over-reacted by shooting three times. Its so easy to judge when we don't have all the facts.

Any cop would have reacted with force to her dash to the car. I am not a cop but I am certain that all training would teach that the suspect running for the car can only lead to bad things for the cops and the public. She is lucky to be alive and should be apologizing to the cops.
