The most generous thing I can say is that people must be confused about true values.
Getting a new big-screen TV or other electronic gizmo every year or so seems ridiculous (disclosure: our TVs are all over 15 years old and when they need repair, we take them apart and solder in new components).
The frenzy to buy more mostly made-in-China "stuff" seems personally irresponsible. I wonder how many of the people waiting in lines, sleeping bags or tents have maxxed out their IRAs or 401Ks in the past year. What does it say about an economy that requires shoppers to buy more junk than they need? Nearly all of us have too much "stuff" already.
Its also proof that marketing works.
Anything for low, low prices.![]()
LOL - No, although I have fond memories of taking tubes to the local hardware store as a child to have them tested in the tube tester - after my Dad took over TV repairs from the TV repairman who upset my Mom by burning the carpet with a hot tube.
BTW, most TVs that are thrown away today could be repaired for a couple of dollars' worth of capacitors. We have become a throw-away Society.
People are sheep, and get so easily caught up in the hype. On electronics in particular, it is silly to think mfgrs. and retailers are going to give the very best deals at the beginning of the season. Wait until after the new year and they're going to be desperate to unload stuff.
On top of that, I personally would not be caught in a store today if my life depended on it.
As far as family values, that horse done gone from the barn a long time ago. It's all about me me me.
This mindless spending speaks volumes about our Government representatives' mindless spending...
I dont know. The women all went shopping and the men drank beer, ate leftovers, and watched football. It was not so terrible.
