Default The return of the Loyola Dons varsity football Program

    OK...LETS SEE HERE

    1. Lots of qaulity players and depth....check
    2. Lots of qaulity coaching................check
    3. Lots of real and fundementally sound football players....check
    4. Lots of good qb coaching.....check
    5. Lots of good size on both sides of the line....check

    6. Not much speed at the skilled positions...but huge check book to get some speed.....check.

I saw enough yesterday to feel like the Dons are set to challenge both CHC and Gilman for the A title in the coming years. Clines level of play also suggest that the Dons have superior coaching despite what too many people think...I said it here....here come the Dons

Again, you're way off. I called this over a month ago, I said that this game was going to be close. Close because CHC isn't as good as their fans want the world to believe. But after this year, Loyola will be the doormat of the MIAA. They have NOTHING on that roster as far as young talent. It's going to be pretty ugly the next few years for them.

    Really? Now for the facts:

    1) Loyola coaching staff had their team well prepared emotionally: they played their best game of the year. The OC also called a very good game. Hunt, Covey and Gillespie all played well. Hunt #32 played the best game of his life: great effort..... carried the O on his back.

1a) That being said there is no excuse not to have two safties back deep with less than two minutes left. Very amateurish......

    2) Loyola QB did not play a great game. He continuously threw errant passes and his mesh technique with Hunt was awful (two fumbles). In fairness to him though, he's been on the IR and hasn't gotten the reps in practice. For the real story of what "may have been" look up Kurt Benkert's QB 3 star recruit ratings. He was a 4.0 plus student at Loyola but was "pushed out" by Abbott. This past season, he was one of the best throwing QBs in the State of Florida, where they play real football.... With Benkert at QB, Loyola has an entirely different season.

    3) Loyola's line was significantly better than CHC's. They dominated both sides of the ball on the line. That being said, to my knowledge they only return three starting linemen: Kenney, Gillespie and Covey.

    4) Loyola doesn't have any speed in the backfield or at the corners. You can't compete in this League without speed at the key positions. That is not changing anytime soon....

    6) Recruiting: Loyola is improving in this area but they're starting from zero. I see all of the other Schools all of the time but not Loyola......

Overview: The 2013 football class was their best personnel wise in the last four years yet they lost in the MIAA quarterfinals. Why? They didn't recruit or retain speed at critical positions (offensive and defensive backfields). Also, two years ago, Loyola didn't keep their blue chip quarterback, which killed them this year turnover wise. All of this falls back on Abbott, which is why he was relieved last year. Hopefully Hall can build on his great offensive play calling ability, recruit some more speed, and make Loyola competitive in the A Conference again.

    Default Loyola ready to challenge

Like I said earlier about the Turkey Bowl, Loyola's best chance for a while was this year. When a team has to play 2 games in between their last league game and before the Loyola game and one of those games was just 4 days before the BIG game, and that game is against a bigger pounding opponent, it is a wonder that CHC did win. Both Calvert Hall and Loyola should petition to change the whole playoff structure as both of them are being hurt if they get to the championship game before the Turkey Bowl with 4 days rest. The idea of a playoff system for a league with 6 teams is ridiculous. Why is it necessary to play each other again when they already just played each other within a couple weeks?

CHall needs to get a new special teams coach as running into the kicker was not the first time this year that has been done by the Cards. There is NO excuse for that as coaching would have taught these kids how to run at the angle where the kicker's foot will be and not where he was. Also, no one took advantage all year against their punt rush which never had anyone guarding against a short pass in the dead zone over top the rushing line. Then, the Cards had punt returners not put their hands up for a fair catch which cost them a fumble and lost possession against St. Joe.

Loyola showed to have the better line both ways but now most of those kids graduate. Did their JV show any promise this season?

" Show me the money " that famous line from the movie, Jerry Maguire, now resonates throughout the MIAA A Conference as member teams fully grasp what needs to be done in order to compete against the national powerhouse that has taken control at Weyerhauser Prep.

I think Loyola's JV was actually pretty good.

Precisely....its just a matter of time before the Dons resort to the oldest play in the private school playbook...the check book....and just like Gilman and CHC, they can and will purchase speed at a premium.

Let me be very clear. Several months ago Loyola's AD stood at the podium and told a group of football alumni "as long as I'm at Loyola, there will not be "non-institutional" dollars for athletic scholarships at Blakefield.

I was at that gathering as well. He asked for our help to reach out and make contact but made it very clear they would not buy players.

I'm taking the liberty of rescinding your title of "Most Interesting Man in the World" (MIMW). The MIMW would know that you can't lump CHC in with Gilman when talking about "purchasing power" in relation to getting recruits to come to MIAA schools. McDonogh is the financial rival, as well as historical rival, to Gilman when it comes to buying players. I don't know exact numbers but from what I've been told, there are limited dollars specifically available to athletes at Calvert Hall. What I do know is that financial aid is offered to every student at CHC if their family financially qualifies.

In regards to the subject matter at hand, I think it would be best that we communicate through our perspective lawyers.
