I don't think that anyone would disagree with you. However, something isn't adding up.

    No biggie.
The safety issue was on my mind at the time. In part because we were visiting relatives and I did not know the area well.

Stores opened at midnight, the kids mom and dad aren't going to win parents of the year but I'm not sure what doesn't add up.
Do you mean by not adding up that the kid made up the attack and his bed bath beyond purchases (of All places, I don't see any kid being that creative to make up BBB as his stolen goods)
Late night shopping during black friday at arundel mills mall is a thugs dream come true, robberies have been reported there a lot so it ALL seems to add up.

If it was faked (just a hunch and I very we'll might be wrong) my theory was that he had cash that was supposed to be spent on a Christmas gift. The money was used for something else and the robbery was faked to excuse the missing money.
As I said, just a wild guess based on the tiny amount of info in the story. The kid was more than likely telling the truth.

Let's not get too wrapped up in blaming the victim.

Just curious, do you have teen children or have raised children through their teen years?

I ask because I'm currently raising teens and the first thing I learned is that the best way to tell if they are lying is if their mouth is moving (Thanks Judge Judy) and secondly, I've become incredibly good at coming up with alternative scenarios than the ones described to me by my loving children. In my world, things can NEVER, EVER happen the way they tell the story so I'm constantly making up alternatives....and it drives my kids crazy. Actually, it drives me crazy too be cause I sometimes find myself coming up with some really CRAZY theories...

When my son was at his worst as a teenager, with the school, the law and the family, I used to tell him I wish he was stupid.

I said if he were stupid, we could fix that, by making him smarter, but when you are smart and do stupid things, that is a tough one.

The report is sketchy, but it could be his parents or another relative were waiting in the parking lot.

How about: the parents took him with them, he was bored(as teen-agers are) so they gave him the car keys and told him to take the bags to the car and sit in the car and listen to his music. A teen-age would probably rather be beaten than be seen at BBB with his parents.lol

How about giving another scenario, add some spice.

This was Black Friday. The kid may very well have been with his parents or other family members. Fact is, he was christmas shopping which is a good thing, and was robbed by 5 black thugs which is a bad thing. He bears zero responsibility in the incident. Arundel Mills is turning into Mondawmin Mall South.

    well well well
Now that the police have released the photos and details of the beating and theft anyone still feel this 14 year old childs report is "sketchy" anyone still feel something isn't "right"?

Myself I knew a 14 year old didnt make up shopping at 2 am and getting beaten and jacked out of his bed body bath beyond gifts in a report to the police, kids dont make that up to the cops.

So here's a picture of the thugs who punched this 14 year old kid in the face and stole his BBB christmas gifts he bought for his family. The link shows the face of crime at arundel mills mall and no it's not a picture of elderly slot players beating on a child in the parking lot. Hopefully this ends the trend on here to blame the victim or spin this that the victim is a liar.

Hold on I'm sorry If you look closely you can see an old lady with a slot bucket crusing bye on a moto-rascal in the photo, she must have punched the kid in the face and stole his BBB stuff, shes the criminal element those anti-gambling people promised would come around, damn they're so smart, they were dead on in their predictions that old people playing slots would ruin the place.

Got it. He was a time traveler, from 2217, doing an illegal run on banned products . His assailants were also from 2217, trying to hunt him down for the elixers and electro-mechanical items that BBB sells, but will be outlawed in their time. The bad guys as we see it, were actually time traveling cops preventing the transfer of illegal energy consuming items.

Ninja blenders? Towel warmers? Black market stuff in 2217, if you could even find such relics. The "bad guys" in this case were actually following a well known smuggler of banned products. These guys failed (although the BBB items were lost, don't kid yourself. Others will travel back to our time in an effort to profit, and there will be guys that follow trying to prevent the time-theft of banned products.

Those good guys are the GWPD, and while they try to blend in as typical 2012 thugs, they are the good guys.

Smart parents should take notice..do not allow your child to walk alone thru the parking lot of a mall at 2 in the morning. They might be mistaken for time traveling smugglers. The GWPD is always vigilant.

I was the only person to use the word "sketchy" in this thread, and I was was referring to the news report, not the boy's report. I stated perhaps his parents or another relative were in the parking lot.

You also apparently missed the sarcasm employed by those who talked about elderly slots players.

I was suspicious. But I was clear that I could be wrong.

    Fair enough
I still didn't feel anything was sketchy because I know it's now insane out there with shoppers and their children lining up and staying out late night on black Friday, I could easily see a 14 year on his own at 2 am on black friday these days, parents might have even given him a list of things to get them.

If you look back on the thread I was the one who posted before about the idiots who said slots would ruin the place, I knew they were throwing anything at the wall hoping to stop slots but it's just funny to think they wanted to be taken seriously when they preached that slots would bring criminals playing them when the typical slots player is a granny with a bucket playing two machines at the same time.

The problem with this type of story (IMO) is that you walk that fine line that may have you stepping on the side that sort of blames the victim.

I don't blame the kid, but I do blame the parents, not for what ultimately happened, but by allowing the kid to be on a mall parking lot alone at 2 AM. Arundle Mills no less. Who thinks thats a good idea?

It's tough to stop preditors from doing their thing-it's what they're good at. But risk reduction should come into play. prior to this happening, is there any rational, aware parent that would not be seriously concerned with the idea of their 14 year old walking alone on that lot at 2 AM? Being anywhere besides their bedroom at 2 AM?

Sad, the pos add a whole new meaning to "Black Friday". AACO was once a civilized county.
