    Default So Md Championship Weekend

Nice to see that the Gilman/River Hill Express Newspaper forum acknowledges that PG and Calvert counties exist. Yes conference/county powers cycle like slow motion constellations. Years back I watched the Mont Co powers circle around Springbrook and Senaca Valley. Later Sherwood (and oh yes the intersection of those stars was Malloy) and Urbana and now Q Orchard. What do you know about Wise HS? I'll tell you a few things. They lost to Urbana 6-0 in MT Staduim two years ago so some of this senior-heavy team played in that game. Wise HS won the state track&field championship last spring. Not saying that there is a correlation 'tween speed and track and football, but among large schools and schools able to handle big time programs there is. This year Wise ran up a PF/ PA number of 539 vs 43. Are you kidding me? No they didn't play any starshine schools like Gilman or River Hill, but they allowed only 43 points all year in PG county which along with the Norfolk VA area are the most heavily recruited hoops and foots regions nationally. So back to track. Last year Wise ran the Penn Relays along with a million other schools in the 4X1 and the 4X4 (if you get confused about the terminology then please go away) and here is a clip of Wise in the 4X1:http://youtu.be/Vo9kH8r9D90 and they made the finals against mostly Jamaican teams which is an incredible national accomplishment. I'm saying that you are dealing with a big time powerful sports program (walk into their gym and you understand) in Maryland. Vs 'Council, vs Gilman it might be a game. Vs. a very good Q Orchard team- we'll see. So PG county Upper Marlboro has two teams along with Calver's Hunnington in the championship games. Maybe the the constellations are shinning a renewed brighter light on So Md.

as i tried to info greyhound about the vast stable of sprinters in pgco:

"...at the penn i told you potomac came in fourth behind three jamacian teams in the 4x100. well, suitland and wise was also there and qualified. you do the math with 8 lanes and the jamacian having three and pgco have three. that left gilman with the possibility to have one of the two [remaining]slots. where were those national sprint studs. oh, practicing football for the fall?..."

three pg schools in the finals of the penn schoolboy 4x100 relays is nothing to shrug your shoulder over and say gilman has better speed than wise, potomac, suitland. roosevelt, laurel, gwynn park, and douglass have some nice burners as well and i believe douglass won the 2a track championship. and i'm telling you that i personally know of a couple kids who would give some of these current burners a run for their money if they were academically eligible to compete.

Anyone comparing any league in this state to PG County in track right now is in denial. Wise (4A), Potomac (3A), and Douglass (2A) all won states last year in outdoor. Wise and Douglass won indoor as well. Suitland was 4A state runner up to Wise in both indoor and outdoor. ER won girls 4A indoor, Bowie won girls 4A outdoor. Wise/Suitland and Douglass will win both indoor and outdoor again this year.

If you are talking sprints, no questions Wise, Suitland and Potomac are in their own league. But if you're talking overall track, you need to check your facts. Gilman went to MULTIPLE meets with all the aforementioned schools the last two years and WON EVERY MEET last year and lost only ONE two years ago coming in second and it wasn't to any of those schools.

Track isn't just sprints my friend and Gilman's program is they elite program in the state.

the discussion centered around speed, flat out pure speed. we were not talking about middle distance running and pole vaulting and discus and flag waving. the talk was about gilman's speed compared to public schools wise and suitland and i merely told you that gilman may be boss on the football field but if there is an all out jailbreak, you would not win, place, or show. and the only way you can glean any attention in the speed department is to come to pg and lease the likes of kids like dorian but there are so many of them. nitro, known to most as ronald darby, was just like dorian, a pre-teen and teen kid with blazing speed who played youth football. that potomac football player tavon young i mentioned who was on the penn relay team was not a trackster. he was just noticed by the potomac track coach running with darby and echols for football and the track coach had him to come out for track. he was raw with very little track skills. did i mention that he was at potomac for only one year, his senior season. but he could fly and really didn't know that because many in his circle were just as fast and many were just ineligible to be involved in any extra actvities so they waste away. when tavon left douglass, he was just replaced with another speed burner / hurdler kyle smith. he was the one who made douglass' only score in the football title game. he played just one year of football because he preferred track. and he has a younger brother who looks just like him who will be off the chain in the years to come. did i also mention their mom and dad are youth track coaches in pg?

Speedin mentioned Outdoor State titles and what PG has done on the track. My point is, PG might have more sprinters(and they should, it's the most densely populated county in the state) but my point is that the premiere track program is Gilman in the state.

Now if we are talking on the football field, obviously speed doesn't mean that much when it comes to PG County schools. When was the last time one of those schools won a state title? Has Wise ever win one, What about Suitland? What has it been, a decade since Potomac won one? Sounds to me that PG County has a bunch of track guys playing football and not real football players.

you are beginning to sound quite bitter greyhound alum because you are not the queen of the ball. why do you think pg should have so many sprinters because it's a densely populated county? with the density comes a heck of lot more schools, 20 plus i believe and the 2nd largest school district in maryland but the largest school district moco doesn't have the numbers or batch of sprinters for your densely populated area theory. and your gilman enrollment of what 500 should not have such all-world football players and track stars and lax talents and soccer and and and with just 500 boys or gilman has one heck of a pay 'em to come in plan. does gilman have a good pay 'em to play plan.

wise, suitland, potomac -- when was the last football title? i'm sure you know it was 2005 when potomac won the same year gwynn park also won. suitland won the year before in 2004. and of course wise has yet to win but they will be in the third title game in four years and i believe wise is a relatively new school that opened its doors in 2006. so 3 times at the bank in 7 years is not bad in the competitive market with roosevelt, flowers, suitland, duval, and northwestern when only 1 can come out of the region. if you think PG just has a bunch of track players rather than football players then just look at the NFL. do you care to compare the number of players in the nfl between gilman and pgco? or would you want to invoke that densely populated rule again. damn, lets compare the first-round nfl picks between gilman and pgco and see if they only have track stars. and don't let me throw in bball with the likes of mr. k. durante of seat pleasant.

don't hate. you just don't wear it very well.

That is all he does. he hates.. Why? B/c he wants everyone to think Gilman is as good as he thinks they are. Bottom line, is they aren't and they never will be. And, if anything, he is doing the school a disservice b/c a bunch of people on here hate the school b/c of him. Me, I hated Gilman the first time I met someone that went there.

Gilman doesn't have and never had 500 kids in the school. It varies year tk year but usually tops out around 460. Gilman's mission isn't about getting players in the NFL. It was always a school that did more with less. Only recently has Gilman mad a concerted effort in bringing in big football studs at a high rate. You're really big into talking about he pat aren't you? Talk to me in 10 years about NFL players, I have a strong feeling Gilman will have a few in the league.

Now we can talk about basketball and PG county all you want but I would put Baltimore's talent over PG's any day of the week!

Not sure how RH got thrown into the mix with Gilman regarding this forum. It's 99% about Gilman thanks to GA.

I hope Wise has great success against QO, which I suspect they will. Not a fan of MoCo. Frederick County has spanked them a couple years in a row now. Expect the same from PGCo.

what's up with the memory of folks in this fourm? fredco "spanking" pgco for a couple years???? what couple years are you talking about? and please don't tell me the 6 to 0 win was one of your "spankings" since i would not call a 6 to 0 win a "spanking" by any strecth of the imagination. if my memory serves me correctly, i believe a wise player dropped a pass w i d e o p e n e d in the zone very late in the game and another wise player fumbled the ball within 5 to 10 yards of the urbana end zone also late in the game. from what my fredco friends tell me, there is no luv lose between urbana and middletown. urbana would rather see its own hungup on itself middletown lose.

Not sure you read that right. I said FredCo spanking MoCo. Damascus and Seneca 2 years running by TJ and Urbana, respectively. Easy DW!

Wise is the largest and the nicest public HS facility in the state of MD. It is state of the art. Their athletic facilities are second to none including a 5000 seat gymnasium that features an indoor track. They also offer the Tech magnet program for the county. It is not unlikely that PG County would produce some of the best sprinters in the nation but it is unlikely that that so many of them would live in the same high school district. They also just so happen to have the best football team in the county as well. If I remember correctly, ER had some world class relay teams back when they were the “it” school for PG County. Nobody can dispute the times put up by their relay teams nor can you dispute the fact that some MD high schools enjoy advantages over other MD high schools which can tilt the playing fields in their direction.

Just to set the record straight Potomac Went to the title game 3 years in a row! losing the first game to Aberdeen in OT(2003), Then beating an undeafted Hereford team(2004), the following year they beat South Carroll with a running clock (2005)!! Potomac remains the only Pg County school to win BACK TO BACK state Titles in football!!! and the first team in the history of the State of Maryland to go 14-0!!!!! I went to the QO vs Westminster game the other night and havent seen Wise this year but if they are big as everyone says they are and as tough on D as they say they are I just dont see QO winning!!! Westminsters biggest problem the other night with QO is that they couldnt keep contain on the QB that wont happen with Wise, We are used to fast QB's who try to get to the corner so that wont be a problem, I see Wise 22-QO 0

That Roosevelt team probably had the most individual D-1/ NFL players on a single team than any other public school in the areas recent history.....

As crow flies, Douglas HS is like 10 miles from Wise HS. Tell you anything? You have to drive out a two lane horse farm road to get to Douglas where there are no big gyms only freak athletes and strong sports programs. Nothing against the north schools like River Hill (I muchly respect 'em and especially their olympic sports programs) but there is something brewing down here in so md that would warm a witches breast in late November.

Their olympic sports program is nice. They have a pole vaulter who, with his pole, can clear the bar about a foot higher than the PG Boys are high jumping it. Gilman wants him cause that pole vaulting event can win them a track meet even though they lost every sprint.
